Earl Clark's going pro...let's not panic

12:53 PM Wed, Apr 09, 2008 |

With Earl Clark's announcement of his intention to jump to the NBA, there have been rumblings about the terrible shape of the Card's front line for next season. The losses of David Padgett, Juan Palacios, and Terrance Farley to graduation and Derek Caracter to, well, whatever it is he's doing, the Cardinal front court was looking depleted. Add Clark's revelation that he's ready to go to the "Next Level", and there isn't alot of size left on the roster.

Let's not panic.

Terrence Williams will be back for his senior year (more on that in later posts). George Goode should be ready to roll, and he is quite a talent. The guard depth is unreal with McGee, Sosa, Knowles, Smith, and let's not forget the entrance of transfer Reginald Delk. There are plenty of capable scorers left here.

What about the newcomers? Samuels and Jennings are going to start or see considerable playing time, according to Pitino. They are more than ready to. Both rank in the top 15 of the rivals.com top 150 prospects. Blue Chip recruits, a Pitino staple.

The 2008-2009 Louisville Cardinals will be fine. Early rankings will have them anywhere from 20-30, which is probably right. But, let's remember that the number one reason not to panic is that Rick Pitino is still calling the shots. He got everything he could have out of this year's team. There's no reason to think he won't have next year's team ready at the right time.
