Former University of Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm suffered through an agonizing five hours on Draft Day Saturday waiting to hear his name called. When the Green Bay Packers were on the clock with the 56th pick Brohm received a phone call. On the other end was his soon-to-be new head coach. Brohm fell farther down the board than alot of people expected. With Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco going in the first 25 picks, you figured Brohm to be a lock for the Miami Dolphins with the first pick in the second round, or at least I did. There will be discussion in the coming days about why he fell, should he have fallen, and about how much better he is than others picked ahead of him. I am choosing to focus on the positives and the great opportunity Brian has ahead of him. He will be given a chance to compete with Aaron Rodgers for the starting spot on a team that was so close to the Super Bowl last year. With the departure of Brett Favre, the starting spot is up for grabs. If Brohm didn't need any extra motivation outside of being slighted by so many teams, he will have a shot to start for one of the most storied franchises in professional football and a playoff contender. Brian is headed to a town that is as passionate about their team as any in the country. Our city is passionate about our Cardinals, and he will just see that fanaticism taken to the next level in Green Bay. So, let's not look at this as necessarily a bad thing that Brian fell to the Packers. We know the talent that this kid has and with the drive he will have in him to play, the newest Brohm to reach the NFL should have the best career of them all. Congratulations Brian, I know you will make everyone in the 'Ville very proud. -Kyle Brown, WHAS11 Sports |
