Petrino Bolts Atlanta

7:42 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007 |

The Bobby Petrino era in Atlanta didn't even last a full year. Instead of sticking out a tough situation, Petrino decides to take the easy way out. Am I surprised?

Not at all. The is standard operating procedure for Petrino. Even at Louisville he was always looking for the next best thing. He's like an unfaithful boyfriend. Always looking to "upgrade". Remember his flirtation with the Auburn job, after only being in the Ville for a year? How about the LSU job after his second year with the Cards? Then his meetings with the Oakland Raiders after his third season at UofL? I guess we can give him credit for leaving Louisville after his fourth season. (Yeah right.)

In Petrino's defense his undoing in Atlanta came long before he even coached a single game for the Falcons. The loss of his starting quarterback Michael Vick is something he could not recover from. He tried Joey Harrington, Byron Leftwich, and even his old QB Chris Redman. But the best they could do this season is go 3-10. Not one of them is Michael Vick and that was Petrino's undoing. He was dealt a bad hand in Atlanta and was doomed to fail.

Still for Petrino to say one day he will return as Falcons coach, and then the very next day resign. And reportedly agree to become the head coach at Arkansas. That's the easy way out. Vintage Petrino. Am I surprised? Nope. And you shouldn't be either.

Let me know what you think.

all Bobby Petrino is interested in, is the ALL mighty buck...it needs to be written in these Coaches contracts....that if he/she quits, before the last year of the contract....she/he should not receive a dime an maybe pay back a little as a penalty for not honoring his/her contract with the team....an he probably left Atlanta, because he couldn't get the players to play....they all make millions of dollars, soo, why should they listen to the coach....in college its different...the players have to listen to the coach as he sees fit to play them or use them....but not in pro sports....it doesn't bother me where he (petrino) goes....as long as its not HERE (louisville,Ky)

I'm an Arkansan living in Kentucky. We've been miserable for the last few years because of Houston Nutt. We are thrilled to get Petrino as coach, even if he only does stick around for a few years. He's got to be better than Nutt. Anyway, maybe he'll take a page out of Rick Pitino's playbook. When the pro game doesn't work out, find a nice university where you can happily stay for the rest of your life and be treated like royalty. Go Hogs!

It's really too bad that none of the reporters that cover this story will have the guts to, point blank, ask Petrino if he's seen a psychiatrist lately!!!

This man hasn't got a clue what he's up to and Arkansas is about to get a dose of his egotism.
