Burton Injury Update

9:06 PM Sat, Dec 29, 2007 |

The Kentucky Wildcats once again looked like a bunch of guys having the time of their lives. Practice out at Vanderbilt University was low key and relaxed. But at the end of practice head coach Rich Brooks delivered some sobering news. Senior wide receiver Keenan Burton, who is second on the team in touchdown catches and receptions, is highly doubtful for the Music City Bowl with a knee injury.

You have to feel bad for the Louisville native. I've probably interviewed him more than any other Kentucky player. He seems like a good guy. I spoke at length with his dad today and I get the same vibe from him. They're good people. But from everything I saw at practice today Burton will not play in the Music City Bowl, meaning the last game of his college career was a loss against Tennessee. The fact he didn't even suit up for practice tells me his college career is over and now it's time to focus on the NFL.

Burton along with the rest of the senior class are examples of what student athletes should be. They've been around UK during the lean years when the team only won two and three games respectively. But you never heard them complain about coach Rich Brooks or their predicament. They only talked about getting better. Now they are reaping the rewards of their hard work. If any team deserves to enjoy bowl week it's these Kentucky Wildcats.

Burton will probably not suit up on Monday but he'll be involved. The players say he's like a coach. Always offering advice and willing to pick a guy up. His father says Keenan will try to play in the Senior Bowl in January. Either way his lagacy as a UK receiver is cemented.

Let me know what you think.
