Wow! Just got back from the stadium and it's still hard to believe. For most of the game we saw the same old Louisville, especially on defense. Rutgers was running up and down the field, throwing to wide open guys and putting up lots of points. But in the 2nd half things changed... Yes, somehow in the last half, of the last game of the season, Louisville played hard! Many people have brought up the idea that this UofL team couldn't or wouldn't play hard for Coach K. "He's lost this team" was another popular thought. But that got thrown out the window. How else do explain the Cards comeback. They played hard for themselves, they played hard to send the seniors out the right way, and they played hard for..yes...their head coach! And how about the winning drive? Brohm to Douglas, senior to senior, for the big pass play. Then Art Carmody, another senior making the first game-winning kick of his record-breaking college career. So now what? Are changed in store? Yes! Do they need to be made? You bet. This coaching staff didn't meld, so I have to imagine there will be a shake-up. There are major issues on defense that must be addressed. Oddly enough, even with Brohm leaving, the most stable aspect of next year's team is at quarterback. Hunter Cantwell was named the best back-up in the nation by rivals.com and he should step in and do very well. As for the rest of the team? They are celebrating tonight, but there's a lot of things to fix. Feel free to let me know where you would start. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Where to start? Ok first off lets not assume that the players played for the coach last night, lets assume they played that fourth quarter for themselves and the seniors, and leave it at that.
Secondly, I'd ask Kragthorpe to reconsider going back to CUSA football. And I'd call him to reconsider that while he's in his warm cozy home purchased with that 1.1 million dollar a year job watching bowl games that Louisville will not get invited too, because he lost to one of the worst teams in college football, Syracuse.
Thirdly if I managed to convince Kragthorpe that he's in over his head in a BCS league, I'd actually work at interviewing possible coaches for the job instead of jumping on the chance to give it to a buddy of mine.
But if I failed to get rid of Kragthorpe, I'd fire every flippin one of the staff and start over from scratch. Might as well if he has a knack for rebuilding loosing programs he's on the right track of having created his own loosing program.
Ten years of progress has just been decimated by a coach who can only say "we need to do better" when questioned at press confrences.
The home game winning streak was toast when the cards lost
to one of the worst teams in college football and the worst team in the Big East, Syracuse. I still get disgusted thinking about that, I wonder how coach K feels about it! There wasn't a home game the cards should have lost or were even expected to loose this year. Pitiful.
9 consecutive bowl game appearences shot down the toilet. We were tied with Miami of Florida and Texas and had more than the likes of Oklahoma, USC, LSU and Ohio State. I guess Kragthorpe figured he's got to rebuild everything, including some pretty impressive streaks.
I would start with all that I've laid out here, and thats just only a part of the garbage that I've seen from a "players coach" this season.
I can't blame the players like some are, and they hold some responibility in this less than stellar year. But the talent is there. They proved that last night at the Rutgers game, holding Rutgers to only a field goal
in the fourth quarter, the motivation was there but that came from the players. Where was the motivation at the start of the game, where was the motivation at the start over every game this season? Well it didn't come from the "players coach" with his "unchangeable philosophy." Not much room for optimism with an "unchangeable philosphy."
