Steve Kragthorpe to Southern Methodist University? It's not going to happen. I've been very critical of the job Louisville football coach Steve Kragthorpe has done this season. No way this team should be 5-6 with home losses to Syracuse and Utah. But despite the teams shortcomings this season he deserves more time, and will get more time. Plus why would he go to SMU. The Mustangs are 1-10 this season and it's definitely a step back for a coach looking to win a national title. The only reason Kragthorpe would leave the Ville is if the heat from the fans and media becomes to hot for him to handle. From my dealings with coach?? He can handle it. Talking with UofL officials it's the effect the criticism is having on his family and players which has him concerned. And he should be. I don't care if a coach makes $10 million dollars, his family should be off limits. The players and the coaches on the other hand. They deserve to be criticised. No one connected with the program is happy with how the team has played this season. The Cards have showed no emotion, they don't play smart, and they don't seem to have gotten any better throughout the season. Those things need to be addressed and it starts at the top. With the coach. But in my eyes the jury is still out. Eleven games is not enough to put a nail in Coach K's coffin. If he comes back and the team struggles to a 1-3 start, then Athletic Director Tom Jurich should seriously consider a change. But right now?? With the injuries this team has had, and the losses on defense Kragthorpe should get a little more time. Let me know what you think. 96 CommentsLeave a comment |

Coach K is like other coaches who step into a high profile coaching position..What do you expect for the first year?
From what I have seen this year, the defense made 1 or 2 mistakes that resulted in big boo-boos.
I don't like "fair-Weather" supporters.....
I say, GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE TO PROVE HIS SYSTEM. THAT INCLUDES PLAYERS AND STAFF..............................
Here's a message to all of the bandwagon fans, to all of you who want him gone, What are you going to have to say next year if he happens to go 10-2 or 11-1 and has a great season, I guess you'll have to eat a little crow and jump back on the wagon huh. Guess not! We dont need or want you on this ship, go down the road about 75 miles east, you should fit right in. SUCK IT UP AND BE A REAL FAN!!!!!
I want coach K to know we really like him. He seems to be a good man. He needs time to get the team going. We are U of L fans and we would not ever boo them. Maybe those people that boo our team should leave. If U of L losses we feel bad for the team and coach.
We are glad you are staying with us Coach K. Good luck to you and your family. Our prayers are with you. I know with time everythings will work out.
Good Luck,
Joe and Aline
I agree that Coach K's communication skills could use some work as well as the defensive secondary. If I was a coach playing against U of L, I would throw over the top until they proved that it would be stopped or I was up by 5 or 6 touchdowns.
I have been hearing since the UK loss that he needs to be replaced. Come on, every coach deserves at least 4 years to get their own players established and a system in place. Am I disappointed in this year? YES!!!!. I think that there was enough offensive talent returning that we should have been able to out score most of the schedule even with limited defense. The play calling has got to be more creative in the future. Nine yard passes on a 3rd and 10 just doesn't cut it. The lack of emotion and what appears to be limited discipline has got to change. I have faith that he can make the necessary adjustments.
Coach K is our coach for the foreseeable future. Let's get behind him and the team. Quit booing them and stay in your seats until the end of the game. Some of you leave even in the great games. I have been going to U of L sporting events for over 20 years and it doesn't seem to matter the score or the opponent (except UK or Memphis), many of you pack up to beat the traffic. CHEER the teams until the end of the game, be supportive until the clock is at 00:00. That is what the fans are supposed to do, that is OUR job. His job is winning and he can do his better if we support him even during the bad times.
If he goes a few years and things don't get better or decline, then yes by all means replace him. Most of us would be replaced if we under performed in our jobs.
One of my concerns is that we could lose Tom Jurich as well with all of the negativity surrounding the program. And who has been better for U of L than Jurich? NO ONE! Let's stand behind Jurich, Kragthorpe, Pitino, and all of our coaches / players to support them. If you want to criticize your team, PLEASE find another team to support and leave mine alone.
1. Damage Control from the UL Athletic Dept - want fans in seats for Rutgers game on ESPN
2. Patience is a virtue - after the season is over next week, SMU or another college hopefully "formally" contacts he and TJ
3. If he stays, $4mm is needed to buy him out or endure 4 more years of his worthless sideline pacing - Using UL as his learning experience - out of his league - Thanks TJ
5. Have season tickets - fly in for home games - attend some of the away - have financial commitment to the expansion - VERY disappointed TJ hired his friend from CUSA w/o interviewing ANYONE - Thanks TJ
6. If he stays, afraid the expansion is in serious trouble
7. Would think most fans want to feel pride and respect for a Real Coach who inspires players to be their best - the only Real Coach on the football field this seaon is Jeff Brohm
8. Respect is Earned, it is not a given....Coach Kragthorpe does not communicate with fans, only speaks to them - is a Loser On and Off the field
9. No excuse for no bowl game (after 9 consecutive one) with this caliber of players
10.Coach Petrino will hopefully return to college ball - we WANT and NEED him back yesterday.............
Coach K seems like he has good intentions for the players/team. He needs to get some PR lessons if he hopes to win with the fan base. "We'll get it fixed" will only work so many times before you ACTUALLY have to DO something.
He better get rid of Stubbs and makes some other changes or he won't last.
Steve is not a good organizer. He needs to get better assitants immediately. Give him two more years and let him go if he does not win. He is getting paid $1,100,000 which is a lot of money. When you are paid that much, a coach has to produce. I do not know why Tom Jurich is so protective of him. The play calling this year was poor. The staff needs a major overhaul; too many inept assistants. He needs to find players who want to play for him. Too many guys did not want to play for him as could be seen in the South Florida game.
i think he should leve or get new defence codinators....thats my opinion..but i still love the cards,....GO CARDS....if we play rutgers good then he should get another yea...
we will get even better what ever we do....
Football games are usually won by the team that controls the line of scrimmage. Texas A M has a quarterback that allowed them to beat Oklahoma by his mobility. He would run 15 yards back to escape the rush and then complete a pass. Brohm and Woodson are pocket passers and when the line cannot protect them the team has trouble. The defense has no pass rusher like the two now sacking pro qbacks. The team was way overhyped on the basis of the qback. SK took a team that if they had won he would not have gotten credit and now that they have not met expectations he should not be blamed. He has the class to not blame the players or complain about all the injuries. Attacking him will only hurt recruiting and may drive Jurich away. A real fan would not want that.
i think uofl is doing a good job who cares who picked them preseason number 6 the truth is lou lost the best def players from 06 season so its to be expected, plus this is kragthorps first season at lou so give him some credit all u fans who boo at him and at lou need to check ur selfs and rethink whose team your really on.
Coach K says he gave 'his word' about staying at UL.
It's regretable he can't give 'a word' about his team.
His 'no questions', 'no answers' press conference is typical of his no communications throughout the season.
Perhaps if he tried to communicate with UL fans, they could be a little more understanding. His 'get out of my face' attitude does not gain much sympathy or support.
Now that coach is staying, before next season, Jurich should send Kragthorpe to communications -and personal relations- classes.
I'm glad Coach Kragthorpe is staying. The so called fans that "boo" the players and the coach need to go to another college. They are not true U of L fans. We have class, give coaches and players a fair chance to turn the game around. This is the first year with a new coach and some new players give him chance.
Kragthorpe needs to apologize to U of L and its fans. He talks as though quitting would be "the easy thing to do", when in reality it's the honorable thing to do. He doesn't deserve another year, and he should recognize that.
injuries???? some of you wanna say we had injuries??? who got hurt last year in the first game?? Michael Bush!, but Petrino made us all forget that very easy!! I dont see how this team is playing as bad as it is! the play calling is absoultly horrible! we are so predictible on offense, coach k please do yourself and your family a favor and just move on! in another year or two when your getting fired you will have wished you did!!
I think my fellow Louisville fans should be ashamed of themselves for harassing Coach K's family. We have to give him sometime to change things. You know we can't always be the best at football, come on look at Kentucky who ever thought they would have a good season. Sh** happens. Coach K if you happen to read these and I hope you don't because I'm ashamed that U of L fans could ever act this way, but please stay. Louisville fans are treating Coach K the same way Kentucky fans treated Tubby Smith and it's a problem. I can't even go to the game because I don't want to put up with the drunks that boo the team. And I am a born and raised die hard Louisville fan. I know your not whining your concerned for your family and I don't blame you. But please stay I really want to see what you can bring to the BIG EAST !!!!!!!! And I'm sorry for my fellow fans that are acting like children.
if the heat's to hot in the kitchen, get out!
last i checked, coaches get paid to win, not take a team with tons of talent and loose.
as far as you are a man of your word. ha! that's what the last guy said, so excuse me if i doubt you. you show up wearing the cardinal colors next year, and then i'll believe it.
The coach hurt himself from the very beginning by not being up front. We understood that the defense was hurting but when we were pre-season #6 and he said nothing; everyone was lead to believe we were that good. We know who to blame but just be up front. No one deseves just a year. He made his mistakesnow fix them and speak the truth.
Bernie
I am glad to hear that he is staying. I can't believe that some fans act the way they do. It takes time to develop a team and if he left the new recruits might decide to go elsewhere. I have all the confidence in our AD and Kragthorpe. He has been under tremendous pressure and examined under a microscope. I just want to say to him and his family that there are people that support him too.
My opinion is that everybody should leave coach k alone, first off the team lost seven starters on defense, four of which are in the NFL, second, it has been an injury plagued year, third, the players had to get used to a different style of coaching. It's alot of things. everybody around here thinks that we are a title contender, not so fast my friends. I am a true cardinal fan and I think we are not there yet. When we start getting the quality recruits on a regular basis like florida or oklahoma or ohio state, then all you bandwagon fans can complain about a bad season. because thats the way it is at those schools, they are allowed to complain, because they get the good players. All that I can say is it is what it is and nothing is going to change right now. And also to all of the booing fans and the ones who say they will boycott. I'll be glad to take those tickets off your hands. Give them to somebody who actually wants to watch them and support them no matter what. And also ,think about the seniors on this team, dont let them leave thinking this is what you think of them. Try to let them leave on a good note. they deserve it after what they have given to us.
With the job that Tom Jurich has done I would not give up on Steve Kragthorpe until he had been on the job for four years. Most of the players would be ones he recruited at that time. Most thinking Universities give a coaches four years unless unusual circumstances happen such as committing a crime. Most consider three a little quick. How attractive would the Louisville job be if we fired a coach after one year for not winning enough games. Was I disappointed? Yes. Did I think coaching was at least a part of the problem? Yes.
I keep hearing how the fans that have been disgruntled with Kragthorpe have "attacked" his family. Like what? Give examples. Criticism of this coach is not equivalent to "attack" on his family! I've seen it written that "He's a nice family man -- leave him alone." I, like so many others, do not think his coaching style is the right match for us -- family has nothing to do with it. If all it takes to be a good coach is to be a good family man, then sign up my husband! He could lose just as well (or bad) -- and it would be a pay increase for us!
Coach deserves at least two more years.
i don't think coach k was the best candidate for the job; but then again we lost some players last year. you can not expect a team to be as great as the cards were last year when you do lose top players and there is a new coach. plays have to be formed and everyone has to get use to everyone else. i say keep the coach and let him build a team of his own. let's see what he's got. it may suprise us.
This is not like the Brooks job at UK...Coach K is similar to Tubby (champs)or Denny Crum (final four)in their first year. He got a team that should compete for a title or a BCS bid! After the Cards lost to Kentucky the way they did, I lost faith in his coaching abilities. Our secondary was getting beat deep the first to weeks by HORRIBLE talent, then UK just just put a nail in the coffin. IN WEEK THREE!! The guy could not win in C-USA what made us think he would win the the big east. Our favorite coach(HOWARD!!!) got fired after one year in Oklahoma, Coach K can get run in his first also. Cards for LIFE!!! Terrance
This is the best news I have heard in sports all month. I hope CRAPTHORPE does leave, so we can get a qualified coach in the Ville.
I was behind him from day One and will always support Coach K!!!!!!!
Good Luck and GO CARDS!!!!!!!
I can't believe some of the things I am hearing about Coach K! People threatening him and his family? I admit, at first I was upset about the losses, BUT, Kragthorpe is doing all he can! Louisville took a big hit on defense last year! At some point we have to figure out why our offense isn't putting up the numbers from the last few seasons??? Im pretty sure that it's not coach k wearing number 7 and dropping a lot of passes?? Give him a break people. If I was him I wouldn't want to coach here at all! Our program isn't rich enough to expect the things that we do from our players or Coach K. We aren't up there with the Michigans, and Auburns, and Texas or Oklahoma! Think about it, half the people that are mad at Coach, Weren't cheering for the Cards in football 6-8 years ago! Come on Louisville, Let not be like our fans from Lexington! We are better than that! Good Luck Coach K!
I urge all my fellow Cardinal fans to calm down and give our coach a chance to prove himself. We owe him that. Moreover, we owe Tom Jurich that. Coach K was King Tom's first choice and I have to believe that he knows more about picking a good coach than me or any other fan. Trust Tom. Give coach a chance. Support our team. Go Cards!
Shame on those fans that make Coach K and his family feel they should consider leaving Louisville. I have been a long time supporter of Louisville Athletics and I always took pride in the fact that we always supported our teams and coaches win or lose. Coach K is a class guy and he needs to be given every opportunity to do what we all know he is capable of achieving. Please stay Coach K and know the unsupportive fans are definitely in the minority.
GO Cards! Come on card fans
Get off the coach and players.
If you are a true fan go to the games and cheer your team on(stay home if you are one that boos). They are kids don't you think they would like to win every game as much
as we would like for them to?
Everyone needs to remember this is a game and we need to back our team Win or lose.
Just a friendly note,if you got a new job and they thought you was doing bad how would you feel if they called your wife and kids and told them you needed to leave town
I guess that would be OK RIGHT? Yes I am a disappointed
Card fan this year but most of all I am disappointed in the way the Card fans have been.YOU ALL SOUND LIKE CAT FANS. When something goes wrong your ready to kick the coach out.Give him a chance.
No, he and that coach K tag have got to go.....
Or at least change it to coach L......
Funny thing is Petrino, knew what was going to happen with this years team and the season / coaching this year has more than likely caused the program to fall back at least two seasons and maybe more.....
I say get another coach and let him build the team the way Cooper did, even though you all ran him out of here Smith won with his recruits and then Petrino benefited from those as well....
Dump the coach K tag, make him earn it! dub him Coach L...., you are disgracing my Bluedevil's and Coach K!!!!!
OK so the coach is whining - let me get some cheese. He is an adult and he is a coach. Sometimes you win games sometimes you lose games. Grow up. If he can not take the pressure then get out. Ky football has had many many bad yrs but the coach did not whine and leave. He stuck it out and Ky is starting to have a good football team. Coach K is a big baby and he needs to take his whining and cheese some place else. Who cares if he leaves. I am sick of hearing about it and I could care less if he leaves or not he just needs to get it together and deal w/losses and wins.
I just think it is pitiful that the coach not to mention his family has been treated so poorly. Shame on you! We all makes jokes about the way Uk fans treat their coaches when they aren't successful, yes even after one year they are ready to have their heads. Look at how they wanted Rich Brooks out so badly and now they think he is the King. EVERYONE deserves a chance. I am sure that if each of these so called "fans" did something wrong at their job, they would be given another chance and I assure you that no one would go after their families. Tom Jurich has made GREAT decisions for the school, the teams and the fans and do you really think that he would have made this one if he didn't think it was best for everyone involved. We may not be successful every season, but we can all be "winners" if you just support your team!!!
I hope he does leave. It is very apparent he is in over his head. He reminds me of Hal Mummy in his final year with U.K. He notes problems but does not have solutions. The worst problem is there has been very little improvement on the field. The players are not getting better in there execution or understanding of basic fundementals. If he stays another year it will be like trying to rebuild after Ron Cooper. He has taken a team that has the TALENT to be playing for a notional chammpionship and turned them into a less than 500 ballclub.
Okay, so lets look at this problem going on... Kargthorpe came from tulsa out of the CUSA, and began to coach in the Big East. First screw up, these are two different levels of talent and difficulty. Now i know that we the university of louisville were once in the cusa but we were also at one time 1 a independent. We have improved and have recruited the talent to allow us to be considered national championship contenders. Kragthorpe you are out of your league and you need to go some where where rebuilding needs to happen. You broke us back down to ron cooper status and now you get to rebuild us. Why, did we hire him when we are a top ten team and national contenders. I am a true cardinal fan and not fair weather fan but i am so embarrassed, how could we lose to utah and syracuse. I want to say to john l. smith's comment that you betrayed us during our liberty bowl and those boys came back out after they found out you were leaving and almost came back to win that game, but at that point they were playing for them selves and not you, oh yeah and you got fired from michigan st. the team you left us for... so you have no room to talk because you were also out of your league. Last year was not a cinderella year, we won and this year even if we didn't win the conference, we still could have gone to a bowl, but no we may end up not going to a bowl for the first time in nine years. This is ridiculous, we are the Louisville Cardinals and we can become a power house but we need the best. I heard that the Kragthorpe coaching staff only works a forty hour work week, where as petrino put in sixty to seventy hours. WE do not need to rebuild, we just need to get better coaching to hone the skills we already have.
GO CARDS!!!!
The fans of UofL should give our Coach a chance, just like they gave Petrino, nothing is done over night. Tell the people to watch the movie "Glory Road" or "Coach Carter" family members are always brought into the matters when they shouldn't be. I think he needs to be given TIME to get to know Louisville and Louisville to know him...
Fervently hope he's leaving. He's a loser & he and a losing program like SMU deserve each other. Come on, Tom. Admit you screwed this one up & fix it before next season. I'll keep the respect I've had for you if you correct your mistake as soon as NOW!.
I'm so embarrassed by the U of L fans. They have no patience, no integrity and certainly are "fair coach fans." At what point do the players take responsibility? They are the ones exucuting the plays.Give the poor guy a couple seasons to get team together. We are a bunch of whiney fans and I wouldn't blame Coach Kragthorpe if he did leave.
It's pretty simple, if he finishes 5-7 or 6-6 and doesn't go to a bowl game with this much talent, he deserves to be fired.
James, I sure you didn't read what I had posted earlier since it has been buried under all the other posts, but a point I made was that we were building a tradition, and with coach K that probably just isn't going to happen, the pendulum was on the up swing from mediocrity, and the hiring of kragthorpe just cut the cord prematurely. And it's okay to question one of Jurich's decisions, he's human, and he can make a mistake. When you make mistakes, you do your best to fix them, not ignore them and hope they go away. Jurich has done wonders for UofL, more than most people realize, but he can make mistakes.
But really I have more of a problem with this statement, "Our society allows too many people to do and say whatever they want and get away with it...IT NEEDS TO STOP.", it's called freedom of speech buddy, regardless if you like it, you have to respect it being protected, unless you are best friends with George Bush
Oh, come on people. It's a silly little ball game. Silly little ball games are meant for children to have some enjoyment. What difference does it make if it's Coach K, Coach J or Coach Z or whether they win or lose a ball game.
College should be all about an education. So shame on all of you that have attended every game and can name MVP's for the past 20 years while never attending a single graduation ceremony and are unable to name one Validictorian.
forget the talks about coach K bringing brought in to quick and quick decision had to be made to keep some good players and the current commitments.
Look this has been a very interesting year in college football to say the least. That alone should tell people that Kragthorpe isnt having a fair season. Of cousre a new head coach is going to have problems taking over a bunch of talented young men, who obviously had problems that the previous coach kept secret or just allowed them to go un-noticed. Louisville does not have a winning tradtion and one good season doesnt make your programme a winning program. to reach the top you will have ups and downs this is just one of the downs. Give coach K a couple more years to get the players to buy into his system and do things his way and if Jurich is as realiable as the CARD fans know him to be them coach K is obviously capable of leading Louisville to more BCS bowl games
I just want to say that I am a Kentucky fan, but I also cheer on the cards when not playing the cats. I am not one of those "so called" Kentucky fans, but the UofL fans need to realize that you get those fans wherever you go.....it is not just KY fans. But, I do want to say that the fans that are solely blaming Coach K for the losses are nuts. One person can not bring down a whole team. Did anyone bother to look at all of the attitude problems and such that the team had early on. Did anyone think that maybe Coach Petrino shoved all of the bad behavior under the rug to get wins......looks like that to me. Think about it....Petrino supported Michael Vick when he took over the team. I think Petrino was as crooked as they come....especially lying to all of the so called devoted cards fans about loving the team, school, fans, etc., and then leaving just after signing his contract. I think the Coach K got left with Petrino's garbage that was not dealt with. Face the facts cards fans, part of the ill success of the team, lies with Petrino not ever truly controlling the players, and now that he is gone and done covering up all of the attitudes and such, Coach K is left to deal with all of that, and the fans bad attitudes. Get a grip...let him stay and try it his way....the honest way.
I believe why would you change something that works??? I think like alot of people he should have been the one adjusting to what our UL cardinals knew-it was working-if he wanted to implement some of HIS game plans-thats fine-but don't change something that works!!! When you have the GOLD nobody wants to settle for any less. Maybe he should move on and get somebody else that sees what we see in our team- BCS CHAMPIONS!!!
Lets step back and look at the facts and all be realistic with ourselves... By the end of this post I'm sure all of you will have plenty of names to call me which will be completely understood with the IQ level I'm dealing with here... Anyone who actually has a realistic grasp on what has actually happened will not be able to find a legitimate argument against what I'm about to say...
First and foremost the only, and I repeat ONLY game that the CARDS have not had the opportunity to win all year was the South Florida game. Every other game the CARDS were in till the end, blown call by the ref, last second prayer answered for the other team, etc... There is a very real possibility that U of L could be 11-1 right now...
Now as far as Kragthorpe is concerned, basically anyone who questions him is now questioning Jurich... I don't know about you but I'm pretty confident Jurich knows what he's doing and when Kragthorpe gets the ship headed back in the right direction you will all have to eat some humble pie and realize who saw the bigger picture. SUCK IT UP!!! You all talk about tradition, and being used to the Orange Bowl or a BCS bowl game... Here is where you need to step back to reality... WHAT TRADITION?! BEING USED TO THE ORANGE BOWL or BCS GAME?!?!?!?!
I did you all the favor and looked up the definition of “Tradition” and the definition is as follows according to dictionary.com: “a long–established or inherited way of thinking or acting” or “a continuing pattern of culture beliefs or practices” So clearly 1 occurrence does not equal tradition…
Now let’s talk statistics… None of the statistics I’m about to throw out include coach Kragthorpe this is being done to show the “Tradition” he was given… #1 Many of you don’t know but all time U of L football winning percentage INCLUDING Bobby Petrino, is a whopping 51.3% with a 426-405 record… Statistic number 1 that does not make you think winning tradition… #2 there have been 19 head coaches in U of L history ONLY 7 coaches have had a winning record, this calculates to a whopping 36.8%... #3 in the last 38 years only 2 coaches have had a better that .500 winning percentage those two are Bobby Petrino and John L Smith after that you have to go all the way back to Frank Camp to find a “winning” head coach… This is a “HISTORY” that dates back to 1912 which in my opinion would give plenty of time for a true winning tradition… All of these statistics were found of U of L’s webpage so they’re not made up…
Now let’s get a couple things clear, NO ONE including myself doubts Petrino, to date, is the best coach U of L has ever had in football… But don’t talk about a “winning tradition” you’re used to until you look at the facts!!!
Kragthorpe is going to be fine and will have U of L back to where Petrino left it in no time if not better… Coaching changes are historically never easy quite being ridiculous and support the team and program and coach…
Also I would like to state for the record, I am not OK with the way the season has shaped up but there is much more of a silver lining with how things have turned out than many of you will give credit for... I'm very anxcious to see what happens when Kragthorpe gets players here he has recruited. Don't get me wrong he did inherit some talented guys but they are clearly not playing for him or buying into his system... Case and point would be at the end of the USF game there sat Brohm and Cantwell side by side on the bench having a good laugh, seeming to not care at all... I'm not quite sure what there was to laugh about, but thats just me...
Lastly I would like to reference an article found on ESPN.com written by Pat Forde, which should shed some light on what was left to Coach K by the so called "Saint" Petrino... cut and paste this link: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=3120053&sportCat=ncf
scroll past all the Michigan/Les Miles stuff... I'd venture to say Forde's resources are as credible as anyone including my man K. Draper... I want to win just as bad as any cardinal fan, but I don't want it to be done in a shady way as it seems, according to the above mentioned article, Petrino got it done...
I agree with Donna. Just this morning I was thinking of why I am a Cards fan and why I hate Kentucky soooo much. It is because of the fans. But now so many Cards fans are acting like Kentucky fans. Shame on you.
If any of you season ticket holders are so upset with the team that you would like to be rid of those tickets, there are plenty of us who will gladly take them and cheer on OUR Cards and Coach K (PLEASE stay Coach K) forever.
Some people need to learn that the Cards will not have a winning season every year and that you can't believe that just because you won the Orange Bowl last year that this year should be the same. If you are a true fan, you should support the team no matter what.
Coach K, please stay. There are plenty of us who believe in you.
There was nothing to turn around. The team was on the right path. Kragthorp tried to take the team down his "new path". He should have sprinkled some bread crumbs down , so he could've found his way back. His arrogance cost him.
BEFORE COACH K - RANKED IN TOP 10 PAST 3 YEARS, 41-9 PAST 4 YEARS, 9 STRAIGHT BOWL GAMES ONE OF ONLY 7 TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY TO HAVE DONE THAT,- SINCE COACH K, FIRST LOSEING SEASON IN OVER 10 YEARS, WROST DEFEAT AT SOUTH FLORDIA IN OVER 20 YEARS, I BELIVE THAT SAYS IT ALL.
I think Coach Kragthorpe should stay and be given more time. You win some you lose some. Can't expect to win all of the time. I think the fans are being too hard on him and expecting too much the first year. Give him a break. He's only human and we all make mistakes. Give him a chance to turn it around.
Please Coach K! Take the job at SMU
There are quite a few UofL fans here in Savannah Ga, and we are mad as hell at what has happening with the program. We (meaning) 37 of us go to a local UofL bar in Savannah to watch every game. This man has cost Brohm at winning the Heisman and taken away our chances for a bowl and might take 2 or 3 years to recover. In a sports show here, we heard that Tommy Bowden is looking for a job and would be the person to bring us on track. Please believe me that the UofL fans outside the state of kentucky want Coach K to go. Most of us wanted Coack P to leave Atlanta and go back to Louisville. I do believe he is thinking he has made a huge mistake.
I think that Coach Kragthorpe should stay. Tom Jurich has faith in him and that's good enough for me. Most of the people who want him gone are not die hard fans of U of L. The people who want him gone are the one's who jump on the band wagon when U of L is winning and jump off when they're not. So back off people and give the man some room to work. I have faith that he is the right coach for this team.
I feel as quick as U of L brought him in, they got what they bought. You can call him Ron Smith or John L. Cooper. Let him go and find someone that can coach
U of L style and has U of L at heart.
Secondly I think the contract(s) these coaches sign. If they get fired, or quit before the contract is over, the university owes them nothing. You leave on your own and go to another college and still get money from your last contrat. What a scam .....
This was not a re-building year. From game 1(I'm a season ticket holder)I could see the defense was ill prepared. It's not that they just missed tackles , but they had no idea where they were supposed to be. A coach can't tackle for you, but he certainly should know where you should be & be able to instill that into his players very fiber. Offensively, he treats the offense like they needed a new vision. Well, his vision has a serious astigmatism. Seven yard passes when you need eight, illegal procedure on key plays, unsportsmanlike conduct...come on. Brohm CAN DO play action/deep post or fade. Let him. Can someone tell me position by position who we lost to graduation? Maybe we lost more than I thought, but I don't think we did. Louisville is not a totally ate up town with sports , like Lexington, where our daily lives hinge on our sport's teams, so the outcry I hear for getting ride of Kragthump rings pretty true & loudly. I say he needs to go. If not, Mr. Jurich may want to hold off on that stdium expansion.
I should have read some of these comments before submitting my first comment then I would have seen that we have a lot of replacements for Coach K that have such great ideas and experience that Jurich need only to chose between one of these submissions to find his new coach. All he needs to do is make sure that whomever he picks, uses the English language correctly and doesn't have problems with spelling. That narrows the prospects greatly!
I am embarrassed to be calling myself a Cards fan. Not because of the team but because of the fans. The fans are one of the reasons I was proud to be a Card fan and now, they are behaving like the other team! Sure, this pass year has not been what we expected or how it should have been. I think everyone should pull themselves together, act as adults and stop bashing Kragthorpe. I am pretty sure the season is not what Kragthrope had planned either. We need to continue supporting the Cards as well as Coach K, let’s look forward to next season!
I think Coach K deserves another year. Yes, this season was very disappointing but it can't all be the coach's fault. You can't expect an Orange Bowl trip every year.
I am also appalled that anyone would make comments to his family.
I'm conflicted---should he stay or should he go?
I can't imagine that one coach can cause such a turn around in a team and almost have to believe it's the attitude of the players more than the performance of Coach K. Maybe he should wait until he has HIS recruits to work with and see what happens. However-we're facing next year with absolutely no hope nor indication that things are going to get better. I'm glad it's his decision at this point and not the general public's. What I do know for sure is that the U of L fans as a whole have been acting as classless as UK fans are famous for and that makes U of L look worse than Coach K could ever make us look.
As many of you I at the beggining of the season felt Coach K was not the right coach for this team. However, after taking a closer look at this new team it occured to me that this was not the Orange Bowl winning team. Not because they weren't playing hard, but because it was different coaches, different players. The Cards lost 7 deffensive starters, 3 deffensive coaches, 3 offensive coaches, and a special teams coach. You have a new coaching staff and rookie starters. I don't feel its the coaches fault that that a player drops the ball you can't blaim that on play calling. When defensive players miss thier assignments I do feel that is partially the coach but its also a rookie on the field. So you work with what you have. I feel Petrino new this new his team would not be the same and left this program. To sum up Coach K needs some time to come in and make this team his own.
He needs to be given more time just like Petrino. Also who in their right mind would want to coach here with this type of negative fan base. These people would turn on their own kids if they did not win
I believe that with the talent Kraigthorpe came into he should have done much better than he did. Yes, he lost some players, but not enough of significance to justify the terrible season the Cards had. One can't hire coaches and other University personel based on friendship - hopefully, that wasn't his entire thought process, however, it had to have played a significant role. When I heard who he had hired and that they were longtime friends, I even knew that it was going to spell disaster. I'm sure Coach K did the best he could, but maybe he was in over his head? I also knew, knowing how Louisville fans are (i'm one too), that the price his family would pay was going to be high and I felt sorry for them before they even got here. I wish them all the best, but he does need to go somewhere where his talent and experience will be better utilized.
It's amazing to me how much us Cardinal fans sound like the Cat fans less than a year ago. All this moaning and whining makes me sick. All of you should grow up and start to realize that no one and no football program is perfect.
Have you ever heard of the term "growing pains"? Well that is exactly what this is and yes I admit it is no fun to watch, but it's necessary. Kragthorpe's coaching style is totally different than that of Petrino's. He doesn't yell and curse at his players like Petrino did. Kragthorpe is a good Christian man that treats his players with respect and dignity. So the problem is that you have a bunch of players that are motivated by Petrino's coaching style still on Kragthorpe's team. So we need to wait and let Kragthorpe recruit a couple of years and get a team and majority of the players that are used to him and his style.
Thanks
If Kragthorpe stays, the stadium expansion is goes. A recent mailed solicitation to season ticket holders will expose this fact clearly. John Schnautter will likely make it explicit to Jurich, Ramsey and the Board. Fifteen thousand no-shows for the Rutgers game will also put the handwriting on the wall.
Kragthrope has done Katrina-like damage to our community, to Jurich, to Brian and to me and every season ticket holder. The players cannot be blamed; they're kids and Kragthorpe allowed them to get out of control. Repair will take years, and the repair effort must not be left to the destroyer. He has shown no ability to repair anything.
I think he's being treated just like Tubby was treated before he left, and that's just wrong. How many times have the players reiterated over and over again that it's their fault, they're not playing to their full potential? I think people need to look at the full picture, instead of putting all the blame on Coach K. Granted, last season we blew up the field, and stomped on plenty of great teams, and this season we've fallen through the cracks, but you need to look at the players as well. Coach K can only do so much. In the end, when it's all said and done, it's the players who choose what to do and how to do it. I think some of the blame needs to shift to the players, and also the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator.
I think it is pretty bad when you get so caught up in a sport that you start harassing kids because their father is the coach and he isn't having a winning season. GROW UP, GET A LIFE!
Kyle, 99% of all rumors and hype coming from U of L is indeed orchestrated and rehearsed for publicity sake...
BUT, I think the real problem lies in the conduct unbecoming an honest "fan" of U of L or any school program. The fans of U of L should be totaly asshamed of themselves as to how they conduct themselves at the games when the players aren't performing like they want them to. The fact that the fans have the gaul to "BOO" the players whether the game is televised or not, and also the speculation that fans deliberately go to the game to just "BOO" the team, is a greater cause for the headlines to read:"50/50 Chance The Fans Should Be Allowed To Be At The Game With Rutgers".
Coach Kragethorpe should be given a FAIR chance at coaching, and let the fans know what is going on with any problems to a degree. The fans do not own the team. There isn't ONE of the "fans" that can do a better job at coaching or playing.
If so, then why aren't they out there on the sidelines with a headset or a uniform on, calling plays or designing audibles?
Coach "K" has my vote for staying and completing his contract. He should ignore the fans who "BOO"; a clear sign of their inneptness and ignorance to what it takes to lead. U of L should extend the "O" Tolerance policy with the embaracing fans and have a stipulation signed by all ticket holders either at the gatepurchase or season tickets, to conduct themselves in a civil and respectable manner while on the property of U of L or any other school before, during and after the games of any sport, or be subject to ejection from the venue. Basically, fans should be held accountable and ejected if guilty of a "fan foul"..."Technical", "unfanlike conduct".
Our society allows too many people to do and say whatever they want and get away with it...IT NEEDS TO STOP.
I've been a fan for fifty years. I've seen it all! Before 92 and the Fiesta Bowl who cared about football?
This year's team was glutted by graduation. The team was put together on the quick: new coaches, half the recruiting time, and a new system that inexperienced players failed to adapt to. Then came the injuries and the loss of key players. You don't have a running game without blocking and we lost guys every game. There was one game the kids didn't lose, "UCONN" the Zebra's stole that one from us. Syracuse and Utah, just shouldn't have happened. Fans should remember that the team playing this year is just not the Orange Bowl Championship team. Brian Brohm can't carry the team on his back alone. Who knows what happened. No one outside the locker room does.
Coach Kragthorpe deserves more time! I for one won't quit on the kids. The South Florida game was embarrassing. It started out bad and then went over the cliff.
My advice is; it's only a game, it's played by kids, it's supposed to be entertaining not a life changing experience, get a grip, get a life. Leave the destiny of Coach Kragthorpe up to AD Jurich. This type of talk shouldn't be out there not among the fans. I say live up to the coaches contract. Tom Jurich should wait a couple of years before considering the fate of the Coach.
I am soory about his family going though this but taking on a team that loss a few players, shouldn't be in this situations. I have been UofL fam a long time, its hard to belive that he could take this team to the bottom!! It tme for him to leave and go to USM, just don't need more years of this!!
I think he should leave. I don't understand the fans that say we should stick with him and behind him just because one person made the mistake of putting him in charge. There are plenty of analogies I could equate that to that seem harsh, but the gist of them all would be that we shouldn't support someone that is making bad decisions are ruining something we hold dear just because our AD decided to hire him. let's face some facts, he wasn't ready to move up to a program of this stature, we got lucky with the hire of coach petrino, he was a steal at the time, Jurich took a long shot hoping to find a diamond in the rough, and it turned out just to be a lump of coal. What do you do, you toss it to the side and look again, you don't hold onto the piece of coal and wait for it to turn into a diamond, you'll be waiting forever. After coach p left we had a lot of returning talent, and our best opportunity to hire a proven coach who could handle a high profile team, the longer we hold onto a coach that isn't successful, the more unattractive our program looks, we'll lose recruits and the team will just get worse. let's face it, Louisville hasn't reached the pinnacle of being a football powerhouse, we were still building that reputation and gaining attention from the national media, now we have pretty much fallen off the map, we need to get back on course before we gain the status of being just another flash in the pan... it was a good try coach K with your immature high school style offense, good luck at SMU
I have not read every post, but I think COACH KRAG needs to GOOOOOOOOOOOO BYE BYE. How can you have one of the top offenses in the entire country return from last year and be so horrible. The play calling is the worst in UofL history, including Ron Cooper days. This offense should be throwing up 50-60 plus points each game, then our mediocre defense could still give up many points. I don't understand how you could watch film from Petrino's great wins and not be an agressive play calling coach like that. He was a proven winner and Caoch K is a proven loser, even his record at Tulsa was SAD, what like 27 and 22 or something weak and sad like that. TIME TO GO BYE BYE COACH K!!!!!!!!
It would be in UofL's interest if Kragthorpe were to leave. I think Kragthorpe should take responsibility for the team's poor performance this year and apologize to the fans. Jurich should too. He made a huge mistake by hiring a friend.
It's not just that we have a losing record this year (which hasn't happened in about a decade); it's how far we've fallen in just one year's time. Last year we came close to going to a national championship game, and this year we started off sixth in the nation with hopes to win a national championship. Other reasons for the team's lack of success, like the loss of a few players, aren't enough to explain this many losses. Obviously if coach Petrino were still coach this would not have happened.
I'm surprised that you think Coach K needs more time. You admit that, "the Cards have showed no emotion, they don't play smart, and they don't seem to have gotten any better throughout the season." Well, last year the Cards had emotion, they played smart, and they improved throughout the season. I think 11 games is plenty of time to discern that Coach K has not been able to accomplish these things with the team, and I see no evidence to prove that he will be able to if he needs more time. In fact, it's likely that the more time Coach Kragthorpe is at Louisville, the worse we'll get. He's not going to be able to get good recruits by coaching a team with a losing record. He's not able to unite this team. He's not a good coach. I say do some damage control and get Kragthorpe out as soon as possible.
Just forget it the coach isnt the problem its the players we can all thank coach p for his betrail coach k needs all of our support the players lost it when coach p left and he is the guy to thank for this screwed up season cards will always be #1 to a true cardinal fan.
sure this season did notgo the way we thought ,maybe petrino new this team was not that good. He did requrit these guys.Have'nt you ever made mistakes ? and what coach would want to come here if after a bad year we fired him? we gave ron cooper 2 yrs. what r you going to do if the next coach is bad fire him to .you cant win every year ,and we are still learning how to compete on a level playing field .
give coach one more year ,a healthy team a better staff ,and support from the best college sports town in america ,unless you lose of course.Idi not think we had much of a chance to repeat as big east champs let alone a major bowl , to many losese to many media hype from last year not this year, and just because you return 14 starters ,maybe they were not that good.get off his back, shut up and if you have to say something be positive and yell for your team. Look up the road about 65 miles and see that there patience paid off ,even john l lossed with a great team returning, who knows maybe next year will be the year .
I think Coach K should be givem more time. I think many are being too quick on the draw. I remember Bill Curry being fired at Alabama when his first recruiting class would develope the following year. His successor won the National Championship with Coach Curry's team. He was a class act and from what I have seen so far so is Coach K.
Dave
I love UofL sports, theres no question about it. I think it is a disgrace to all UofL fans/players/coaches/students when other hateful radical fans start booing the players and talk about shipping coah K out just after one season.People need to understand every coach has different views of how the game should be played. I say give the man another chance, theres no since in having that man and his family move from there home and live in a different state with different people for just one year. The problem that bothers me most is all these fans that want coach K gone act just like Kentucky fans and that looks bad on all UofL fans, look at what those cats fans done to tubby smith people here are doing the same to coach K, i would be ashamed of myself it i was put in the same boat has kentucky fans. besides its basketball season and we need to be worried about that champion GO CARDS, travis ballard
Have been a season ticket holder for 40 years. Have lived thru good and bad coaches. This years team is the
most apathetic, disorganized bunch I have ever seen. Leave receivers alone on the sidelines, players trying to figure out where they should be playing as the other team came to the line. It is my understanding that 14 starters returned to this team. With the # 1 quarterback
in the country, on 3rd and 9 to go, we run a 5 yard pass
over the middle. Using another 1st year coach, Kelly at
Cincinnati who had many fewer starters returning and look at the job he has done. His team is organized, focused and winning. How did they have a much better year than us with I think almost everyone will agree we had far superior talent. Its the Coach. I think Tom Jurich is the greatest Athletic Director in the country but even the best can make a mistake.
Like most U of L fans - I am very disappointed with this season. I do think we got caught up in the preseason ranking and really never gave it a thought about what we lost and the effect a new coach - new system would have on this team. I don't like the fact that Coach Kragthorpe has kept us in the dark - no communication. I don't think we need to know everything but give us some clue. This program has come along way and I don't want it to take to many steps backwards. I have some friends in Tulsa and they are surprised at what has gone on here because fans that support that program thought the world of Kragthorpe and hated to see him leave. How many of us have started a new job - dealing with new people - new situations is not always easy. There is know way Kragthorpe or the players wanted this season to turn out like it has. Leave his family alone - for that matter leave him alone - give him and the remaining players the opportunity to get us back on track. We are better fans than some have shown. We need to rally around the program - What kind of message are we sending to recruits. Live Long and Prosper CARDS
Let's see where do I begin on Kragthorpe. The first thing I would like to point out is how you have Anthony Allen who ran for 200+ yards against Middle Tennessee had a fantastic game. Now he hardly runs the ball why is that?Is he hurt?As fans we would like to know what is going on with our team and players. My thing is is something is not broke why fix it.We were running the ball affectively with the ball in Allen's hand why are you changing it?You think that you are helping our team out by adjusting it HELLO look at our record 5-6 you are not helping your hurting. In my personal opinion you have cost Brian Brohm the Heisman Trophy he's the best Quarter Back in college football and because of your changes we have losses and that affects the votes on the Heisman trophy. You can't come from a college like Tulsa and use their playbook in the Big East Conference and expect to win with their playbook.I can understand losing to good teams that's expected BUT SYRACUSE AND UTAH I mean them were games that should of been EASY wins but Kragthorpe finds ways to make us lose.By me saying that He doesn't know how to coach a team especially a DEFENSE.Kragthorpe knew coming to this Louisville football team that we were a competitive football team and he knew the pressure that would be there. If you can't live up to the challenge out your tail between your legs and stay on the porch.Me personally he needs to go to the WAC conference because that's just what he is WAC.NO KRAGTHORPE DESERVE MORE TIME GET HIM OUT OF LOUISVILLE.
I think Coach K should be ashamed of the performance that his team has but out this season. When Petrino left, fans were told that Coach K could hit the ground running with the team and I think he has fell flat on his face. It has been a very embarassing season for the Cards. I don't think that anyone should attack his family and I am sorry that this is happening. It shouldn't be and the fans should respect that his family is off limits. Heavy is the head that wears the crown and this terrible season falls solely on Coach K's head. He praises were sang about how he lead his last team to winning seasons in a short period of time and he has not shown the fans of Louisville the same respect. He took a championship team and turned them into a team that is bottom of the barrel. The Cards didn't lose so many players that would warrant this type of performance.
If you watch football very much you know that coaching positions are all about the winning seasons. Coach K hasn't given the fans of Louisville very much to cheer about. You see fans leaving the games early and 'booing' the team when things go bad. Coach K shouldn't expect to retain his job when you don't do the job that you were hired to do. No normal working person expects to keep a job if they don't perform to the expectations the company had for them when they started. Coach K is no different.
I am sure that I am not the only fan that would gladly help pack his bags if he is seriously considering taking this new position at SMU. Unfortunately, in a serious sports town such as Louisville you only get one shot to impress the fans.
Louisville will never get the recruits that it needs to continue having excellent seasons if the school has a season record that we have this year. I agree that the Cards need Petrino back. Doubt that it will happen.
Also if the comment about this issue being promoted by Tom Jurich, then the school should take action against him for putting the Coach in this type of position with the fans and the media. Shame on you Mr. Jurich!
If he is willing to leave for SMU for less attention then let him go. If being a big fish in the little pond is what is best for him the he should go. I understand that he has had his feet raked over the coals repeatly this year for a less than stellar year but this is big time college football. He should have thought about that before he took the job. I would hate to see the guy go without giving himself the chance to succeed. It is a personal indictment on a coach, on a man, when he bails at the first sign of trouble. Yes, the fans have been hard. The team is 5-6. The media hasn't been all that pleasant. This team was in the BCS last year. Rank in the top 10 two out of the last 3 years. The season was a failure and with failure comes critics. As a coach, as a man, you don't jump ship. You man up. You cowboy up. You fix it. You don't tuck tail and run. I dont' want to see the guy go because he is a good coach. I saw what he did at Tulsa. He didn't forget how to win. I think he can get this going back the right way. He just needs to want it as bad as we do.
How can a team with a Heisman Trophy Candidate (not any more), the LEADER, a senior quarterback, capable of breaking all the records, have such a terrible record? I'll tell you how, the HEAD COACH who calls the plays & holds his destiny in his hands-UNFORTUNATELY!!! Coach K has squashed our hopes as U of L fans for a bowl game & he has selfishly flushed the dreams of a potential Heisman Trophy candidate, Brian Brohm, down the toilet. I am not sure who he is trying to prove what to, but he has made a mockery out of our team & our star quarterback & enough is enough. His play calling alone should send a HUGE message that we need to move on while we can still sell out our stadium seats & a clear messsage that we want to win, not stand by someone who wants to recklessly call plays....our record stands for itself with the talent that we have!!!!!
I think if coach K would tell the fans what is going on with the team, instead of refusing to air his dirty laundry the fans would be more forgiving and willing to stand behind him. He has had alot of suspensions and guy's let go, and he has not been willing to give the fans any details. you can't expect the fans to respect you if your not willing to respect them.
My biggest problem with Coach K, and one that I did not expect at all from his reputation was his play calling. There are numerous examples I could run though from blowing leads in a game by "playing it safe", running offensive schemes to protect the defence, and running gimmick plays. One thing Coach K should have learned from his predecessor was that if you had a problem with your defence you run up the score. Even if you have a lead. And you run up the score even if you defence plays well. I don't know if he even understands the BCS system. The computers love lots of offensive production. Its the reason UofL stayed high in the BCS with their SOS last year. Coach K is a good fit for CUSA, and he should have never left. I don't hate the man, he's just the wrong man for a BCS job.
Without question I am hoping that Steve Kragthorpe leaves. I think he is a terrible coach and is totally in over his head. I have heard rumors that Kragthorpe leaves work everyday at 5:00, which to me shows no dedication. The team never appears to adjust to other teams, and that is why they are loosing so many games and I think all the blame is on Kragthorpe. Let him go and coach an already screwed up team in SMU and relieve us of our problems. Kragthorpe is not making this team any better, any soon, which means groeth stops, which as a Louisville fan makes me VERY, VERY, VERY, MAD
No offense! but i think that he should leave! i am a bigg UofL fan and have been for several years and i think its only best that he leaves. Last year we were an awesome team i mean we didnt even loose that many players and now look at us! i can barely even stand to watch them play anymore and thats really unusual because im a huge fan and have been for years, but everytime i watch them im like oh yea thats probably going to be a loss,i dont want to be like that either, but how can you go from a team who became well known to a team thats just gradually going down hill. I WIL STILL AND ALWAYS be a louisville fan even though were not so good. i mean i cant believe bobby pitrino even left he was on his way to build a dynasty at louisville! i bet if we had him as a coach still we would still be that team that was well known and we would probably still be really good! But i also dont think its right how are fans are acting towards steve,i mean thats not right either.
sincerly,
chris
I have lived in this city my whole life, I live and breath the Cards, yes I am disappointed in this football season, but I will stand behind my team no matterr what, all the fans want to tell coach K what he is doing right or wrong, but most of them have no clue what his job entails, I think it would be one of the hardest ones to have, he came in and everyone had these high standards of last year but guess what? it's not the same team or the same coach! Be a real fan and stand behind your team coach and all!
And I would like to say something about all the "so called fans"! who boo at the games, you should remember these are still just kids, remember that the next time you think about booing, it could be you kid who gets booed, how would you feel?
I hope on one hand that he stays because there is a learning curve between coaches and their styles. Although we had alot of returning players on offense, and it hasnt made that much sense that the offense hasnt kept producing large point outputs. But the defense is still very young except for a few. Also for all the freshman this year and possibly them leaving if he leaves. Good recruits are going to hard to come by in the future when a team switches coaches several times. I hope not for personal reasons too, my cousin is a highly recruited redshirt freshman this year. i don't think he will leave because jurich will probably refresh his memory how good he has it here..
I'm embarrassed to be a U of L fan right now, due to the fact that we are treating Coach Kragthorpe so horribly. It has been ONE SEASON and our community giving this coach such a huge backlash does not help the morale of the football team at all. He needs our support, and whining and complaining won't help. We are supposed to be the best sports town on earth, not the town that complains the second we don't have a perfect season and let a perfectly good football coach leave.
Let's put all this energy from complaining into something positive for the football team, and see what happens.
I think we deserve better
i think he has done a bad job. But maybe needs another chance. Im a big cards fan so i hope we get a good coach that doesnt think this is a divison 2 school. So Go Cards and get a coach who wants to be here or give Kragethorpe a chance.
i think he should leave i dont like him we were something now were nothing
The UL fans and media are horrible. UL finally has a coach that is a decent, family man and you want to run him out of town! Typical!!
I don't understand the concept that if 11 games isn't enough to make a decision to fire then 15 games would be? I think the opposite would be true. IF you give him another year, then you have to see the year through. Besides, I have yet to look at next year's schedule. Even Krag can beat Murray and MTSU again. I don't understand local media's refusal to take a hard stand. This is one of the worst college coaching performances you could ask for! For the good of the program make a change now. I'm sorry that some fans are going beyond acceptable behavior in making his family unhappy. I'm also sorry that it might not be fair to only give him one year, but as Hyman Roth said in Godfather II, "This is the business we've chosen"!
Now if they play Rutgers like I expected this team to play all season, then give him another year.
I think that Kragthorpe is getting a really bad deal from the fans here in Louisville. Football is a complicated sport and it's hard for a team to transition between coaches. Coach Petrino left Louisville knowing that it was going to be a rough year for who ever stepped in. The fans in Louisville are so use to basketball, that they don't understand how hard it is to deal with 70+ players and coaches. Kragthorpe, took this job and set down on a powder keg. Everyone in this city turned on him as soon as the team lost one game, and most of the team was rebelling against him from the start. This program was built up to a high levels at a very quick pace and the fans fell victim to the glory road. Football is all about recruiting classes and even though Louisville has had some good seasons, they still have had run of the mill recruiting classes. Until Louisville is able to get those high profile players every year, they are going to experience down periods on the field. This will happen no matter who the coach is, and how many players are coming back. Anyone who knows football, knows that you have to recruit at high levels to be successful and stay successful. Hopefully, Kragthorpe stays strong and doesn't let the fans get to him. Kragthorpe needs to tighten his belt, put a controlled staff together, and fight for those recruits. The one thing that Louisville has on their side in the recruiting game, is that they have top notch facilities. We will see what happens.
KYLE, THE FACT IS THAT THIS IS BEING ORCHESTRATED( AND HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS) BY TOM JURICH. MY WIFE LEARNED THIS FROM A SOURCE VERY CLOSE TO THE ATHLETIC DEPT SEVERAL DAYS AGO AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ANOTHER RUMOUR. THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH EXPECTATIONS WAS PROMOTED BY JURICH IN THE FIRST PLACE IN ORDER TO SELL THE PREMIUM SEATS FOR THE STADIUM EXPANSION, WHCIH THEY ARE HAVING A VERY HARD TIME DOING SINCE COACH K HAS BEEN ON BOARD. I AM A UL GRAD AND SEASON TICKET HOLDER FOR FOOTBALL 35 YEARS. THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH COACH K IS COMMUNICATION-- LEAVING FANS AND EVERYONE ELSE IN THE DARK AS TO THE PROBLEMS AND WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT
REGARDS, GARY KEIBLER
