After extensive research. After looking over the depth charts. After examining the coaches. After breaking down the film, why do the 'Cats and 'Cards even need to play this game? I already know the outcome. The Cards will win 99-97. Seriously, though. Saturday will be the fifth Governor's Cup game I have covered. And while this may be the best chance in the Rich Brooks era for a Kentucky upset, I don't see it happening. Here's why: Louisville's offense is just too good. Both defenses have been exploited in the first two games of the season. Louisville's 'D' seems to be out of position more times than not. And Kentucky's defense is still trying to find a way to consistently tackle mobile quarterbacks. That's why Saturday's game will come down to which offense is on top of its game. That's where Louisville has the edge. The departure of head coach Bobby Petrino has not slowed the 'Cards down at all. Under Steve Kragthorpe, Louisville is averaging more than 65 points and 692 yards per game. Quarterback Brian Brohm is on a record pace and is a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate who could be the number one pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Running back Anthony Allen's single game UofL rushing record performance against Middle Tennessee is not a fluke. This kid can play. He's a throwback type of back who seems to get better as the game goes on. Louisville's wide receivers and tight ends rival any combo in the nation. Mario Urrutia, Harry Douglas, Gary Barnidge, and Scott Kuhn are not just physically gifted, they also play smart. They know where the holes are in the defense and often find them. And the 'Cards offensive line never gets the full credit they deserve. Even Kentucky Coach Rich Brooks admitted how big and physical they play. That's why Louisville will win. While Kentucky's offense is potent, it has been slowed at times. Witness the first half against Kent State. Louisville's offense, however, seems to be a machine, oblivious to what the other team is doing. Whether the 'Cards defense gives up 30 or 60 points, you just get the feeling the offense will be one point better. 6 CommentsLeave a comment |

I am wondering if anyone else noticed that U of L was cheated out of about 8 seconds at the end of the game. When U K made their final touchdown the clock ticked off 8 to 10 seconds very quickly before the clock was stopped. I am surprised that none of the U of L coaches challenged the clock. I have talked with several other fans, some watching on TV and some who were at the game, who noticed the same thing.
Seems to me 2 outstanding teams from kentucky showed the nation that we are a football state. They showed true grit and heart and repersented us all well. I would hope both sides has a feeling of satisfaction and I am proud of both programs. For the ones who predicted it would be a blow out either way has once again proven that they dont understand stats ( both team evenly matched )or also the factor of pride and heart. I would hope in the future, local writters and fans would leave the uneducated, dont have a prayer comments to the national media that we expect it from. I would like to congraulate both teams for making it the most exciting game we have probley ever seen in OUR state. Thanks CATS and CARDS.
Yeah....good call
Kyle, I don't know where you were raised or what kind of back ground you have come from but I seriously doubt that you have any idea of what kind of racial discrimination played on the part of the basic U of K fan base. You probably have not been in the presence of UK fans saying that when Coach Crum substitutes a player all he Does IS ReN------. I used to be a CAT fan but when I heard those and much more racial comments, I simply could not support the Cats any longer. I guess my point is this,YOU would NEVER be the Sports Director in Corbin,Sheperdsville,Hazard,London,Taylorsville OR any Community outside the city of Louisville. Take care and Good Luck, MW
We are watching the game and are very upset that the camera will not show U of L fans, U of L cheerleaders, etc. They are on Ky territory but we are in top ten and need equal camera time!
Thats Totally True , Louisville will go into Lexington and Route kentucky it wont even be close. Whitehead and Cox will take Woodson out of rhythm and the game will be over at half time .
I say Louisville 64 Kentucky 21
