Where Have The Years Gone

3:55 PM Wed, Sep 12, 2007 |

Thank you Jay-Z. Good looking out Shop Boyz. For a minute there, you guys had me believing I was 22 instead of 32. As Jay-Z says in "30 Something," "30's the new 20." Sounds good to me.

And who could forget the Shop Boyz memorable song "Party Like A Rockstar." That's what I'm talking about. Age is nothing but a number right?

Wrong. I thought I could still "Party Like a Rockstar." Or even just play basketball like a teenager or 20-year old. Jay-Z and the Shop Boyz had me believing that. But the other day, my body reminded me just how old I really am. Here's what happened: I was playing basketball at the YMCA. Nothing special about that. Done it a million times. But on this day, I felt a twinge in my knee. Nothing to be too concerned about. I'm a trooper. I can keep playing. Well, needless to say, I've been in pain ever since. So, maybe I can't play as much basketball as I did when I was 22. Maybe golf should be my sport of choice.

My point is, basketball used to be my only exercise. I didn't have to do anything else to remain fit. I could eat whatever I wanted and still remain slim. Not anymore.

Because my body does not recover as quickly as it once did, I have to find other forms of exercise. So, the last couple of weeks I've been hitting the gym. Doing 30 minutes on the elliptical machine, even lifting a couple of weights here and there. Stuff I used to hate. But, you know what? I feel great. Sure I'm still in pain but I feel like I'm working towards a goal: to get rid of my 32-year old figure and regain the one I had when I was 22. And with a little more time, who knows, I may just make Jay-Z proud.
