Rich Brooks and the Kentucky Wildcats have to be pleased with the 50-10 beatdown they administered to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. When a so-called power program like Michigan gets beat at home to 1-AA Appalachian State, you know anything can happen in college football. But you have to give credit to the 'Cats. They could have come out and had a post-Music City Bowl hangover. But uhn-uhn. Brooks had his squad ready to play and they showed this isn't your momma's Kentucky Wildcats. Sure EKU won't put fear in any opponent's heart. But in this "arms race" between UK and UofL, the 'Cats did what it needed to do to keep pace with the 'Cards (at least through the first game.) So the 'Cats were very successful on the ground and for the most part through the air. But the schedule gets tougher starting this weekend against Kent State. The Golden Flashes are no slouches, based on their 23-14 win at Iowa State. If Kentucky has any thoughts about the September 15th matchup with Louisville, they need to put them on hold until after Saturday's game. At Monday's press conference, the players talked about how they were not satisfied with the EKU win. Some players were even down because they thought they could have done better. 50-10 is not bad, but these players believe they could have won by more. Overall, however it's mission accomplished for the 'Cats in week one: a convincing win over an inferior opponent. They'll need the same effort, and maybe a little more Saturday against the Golden Flashes. Let me know what you think. |
