Only four games into the 2007 UofL football season, the Willie A. Williams experiment is over. The troubled linebacker has been kicked off the team for his arrest Wednesday night. Williams has an extensive and well known history of run-ins with the law. There was the arrest for setting off a fire extinguisher on a recruiting trip, and a misdemeanor battery charge for hugging a woman without her consent. His most recent arrest came Wednesday for marijuana possession, felony tampering with physical evidence, and driving without a license. It's the 12th known arrest for Williams. UofL Athletic Director Tom Jurich took a gamble on the former Miami Hurricane when he allowed him to transfer from West Los Angeles Community College. It was a gamble Jurich took some heat for. But he stood by Williams hoping the talented player out of South Florida would change. In the end however it's Jurich who is burned. I'm all for giving a guy a second chance, maybe even a third. We've all done things we're not proud of. But we learn from them and move on. That's something Williams has not done. Louisville gave him a chance. It was up to him to take advantage of it. It's a shame has wasn't able to do that. The 'Cards did the right thing in letting him go. Let me know what you think. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |
