Great, now we really do have to believe coaches when they say.."on any given day any team can win." Appalachian State proved that by going to the Big House and foreclosing on Michigan. Note to Wolverines, if you are going to schedule a I-AA team, don't schedule the best one. Louisville and Kentucky both started with I-AA opponents, but Murray State and EKU never had a chance. Week 2 should be another laugher for the Cards against a MTSU team that lost at Florida Atlantic against Howard Schellenberger's Owls. But UK better be careful. Kent State comes to Lexington after winning at Iowa State. That's not a big feat, but a MAC team (Ohio U.) won at Commonwealth in 2004. Anyone else find it strange that after UofL scores on a touchdown bomb on it's first play from scrimmage, Kentucky does the same thing? Wow, this could be a big year for Brohm and Woodson. I sometimes feel college coaches are too paranoid these days, but Steve Kragthorpe brought up a good point at his press conference today. He was asked why he doesn't release any info on injured players. He gave a couple of reasons. First off, he doesn't want opposing teams knowing if one of his guys has an injured ankle or shoulder. They would then be able to go after those body parts in the game. Coach K says he's got two sons who play football and he wouldn't want their coaches putting them in that position. Then of course, if other teams know about an injury, that allows them to game plan accordingly, why give them that knowledge when you don't have to. By the way, Saturday was great, the two teams I dislike the most, were both embarrassed. Michigan losing to Appalachian State and Notre Dame getting pounded at home by Georgia Tech. Why was Charlie Weis given keys to the program and a 10-year contract, while Ty Willingham was shown the door after 3 years. What's Weis ever done as a head coach?? Before I go a quick tip of the cap to Gary Montgomery over at WDRB, he retired last week after a long and distinguished career. He's always been a super nice guy and I wish him the best in the next phase of his life. |
