Observations From Louisville Press Conference

3:52 PM Mon, Sep 10, 2007 |

It's Monday of UK/UofL game week and we don't have to hear anymore talk about one game at a time. That ONE game is here. Steve Kragthorpe and two of his players spoke about the game at their weekly press conference.

Here are some nuggets from the press conference.

Coach K announced that starting safety Latarrius Thomas is out for the year with a torn ACL. Remember Kragthorpe doesn't usally talk about injured players, unless of course they are out for the year. But he would not even specify which knee Thomas hurt. Thomas will apply for a medical redshirt which would give him 3 years of eligibility when he comes back.

Of course there were lots of questions for Coach and defensive tackle Earl Heyman about the defensive problems. Both continue to downplay any "major" issues and insist it can be a quick fix if the players do the little things correctly. Heyman said the defense is "headed in the right direction."

As far as the offense. Coach says they should have scored 80 points against MTSU, pointing out some missed opportunities.

Coach was also asked about fans booing the defense Thursday night. He says he doesn't mind if they are booing the coach but he doesn't like when it's directed at players. He says they are not professional players.

Wide receiver Harry Douglas says he likes taking big hits like he did in the MTSU game and it just fires him up even more. He also was asked about the UK billboards around Louisville, including ones close to Papa John's. Douglas says he think that's ridiculus to put them up in Louisville..after all "Lexington is in Lexington"...

Douglas also said he's glad to see the tight ends get more involved. And he wants to see everyone on the offense be successful.

Keep watching WHAS11 for all your coverage leading up to Saturday's game.
