Time to break it down. Saturday's Louisville-Kentucky game could be one of the most entertaining games of the year. On paper it looks like a shoot-out, but you never know. Here's who has the edge at each position...
Quarterbacks: Slight edge for Louisville
This could be a toss up, but I'll give Brian Brohm a slight edge over Andre Woodson. Brohm really seems to be in a groove and has more experience. But Woodson has improved light years in the last couple of seasons and could be the difference in this game.
Running Backs: Edge to Kentucky
Rafael Little is the most talented running back in this game, but UK has so much depth with Tony Dixon and Alfonso Smith and that's why I give them the edge. Anthony Allen was a work horse last week rushing for a Louisville record 275 yards, hopefully he didn't wear himself out. The other UofL backs have yet to make a big impression this year.
Wide Receivers: Even
Keenan Burton vs. Harry Douglas, Dicky Lyons/Steve Johnson vs. Mario Urritia. So many talented pass catchers in this game, NFL scouts should be watching.
Tight Ends: Slight edge to Louisville
Barnadge and Tamme are future NFL draft picks. But Gary Barnadge is off an awesome start. He leads UofL with four touchdowns in 2 games. He could be one to watch on Saturday.
Offensive Line: Edge to Louisville
UK gave up four sacks against Kent State...Louisville's line looked a tad shakey against MTSU with Brohm feeling the heat. But you can't argue with the crazy stats the Cards have been racking up.
Defensive Line: Slight edge to Louisville
I feel bad for giving any edge to Louisville's defense after the MTSU game, but Kentucky's line is a work in progress.
Linebackers: Edge to Kentucky
Wesley Woodyard alone gives UK the edge at linebacker, his consistency is key.
Defensive Backs: Even
These guys should get a workout trying to cover the wide outs on both sides. A healthy Marcus McClinton would obviously help UK.
Special Teams: Edge to Louisville
Cards have a great kicker, 'Cats don't.
Coaching: Even
This will be Steve Kragthorpe's first Govenor's Cup game and he would love to start with a win. Rich Brooks has yet to beat the Cards, but he's got the team to do it this year.
Intangables: Louisville
Bottom line is the Cards have owned this series, are they in the 'Cats heads? We will find out Saturday night:
Prediction: Louisville 48, Kentucky 42
In my pre-season prediction I had the Cards winning 31-24, I haven't changed who I think will win, but I had to up the scoring a bit in light of recent events. Feel free to leave your predicitons on comments and enjoy the game!!
