"The Best Job In the NFL"

4:29 PM Tue, Aug 21, 2007 |

When Bobby Petrino took the Atlanta Falcons job he called it the best job in the NFL. And even with the Michael Vick mess he stood by that statement, although he did a nice tap dance on the subject when asked about it a press conference a few weeks back. Many say this is a great situation for Petrino because he gets a free pass this season.

No matter what happens, people will cite the Vick case as the reason things went wrong. And if Petrino actually manages to win some games with Joey Harrington at quarterback? He would be a hero. But I doubt Petrino looks at it that way. This really is the last thing he would want to dela with. He's a guy who is all business. Remember when Nate Harris made some bulletin board type comments about Miami last year? Harris was barred from talking to the media for the rest of the season. And that was just for a some innocent comments. Can you imagine what he's thinking about Vick? Petrino doesn't have the same control over his players now. If this was college, you can bet Bobby wouldn't let anyone talk about it. But on Tuesday a few of the team leaders spoke to the media.
It would have been interesting to see how Petrino and Vick would have worked together. Petrino's offensive system mixed with Vick's amazing talents. But now we will likely never see that. Of course if the Falcons go 2-14 and have the first pick in the draft, there's a certain QB named Brohm that would be available.
