Pre-Season Hype

10:57 PM Wed, Aug 15, 2007 |

I wouldn't have a job if hype didn't exist. A lot of what we do is talk about the build up to games and seasons. Heck..we've spent several weeks now talking about the start of the college football season for the Cards and 'Cats. This year is different because UofL and UK don't start things off in week 1. But the hype still exists.

The latest topic being pounded into the ground is which team has the better quarterback. Louisville's Brian Brohm vs. Kentucky's Andre Woodson. Let's face it both are very good and we are lucky to have them both playing in the Bluegrass State.
ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel really got people stired up by naming Woodson as the first-team quarterback on his all-american team. Woodson might end up having a great season but remember, this is just one guy's opinion. His job is to get people interested in what he writes, so he can't simply go with the same quarterback as everyone else.
No one can say for certain that one qb is better than the other at this point. You can look at stats from last season, but those can be deceiving. The key for both will be how they play in big games. Can Brohm lead Louisville to road wins at West Virginia and South Florida? Can Woodson end Kentucky's very long losing streaks against Florida and Tennessee? I think both guys will put up big numbers, but I truly doubt Woodson will be in the Heisman mix because of his team and the 'Cats tough schedule. Brohm should shine with Steve Kragthorpe's coaching. Remember, Coach K is qb specialist. He was the quarterback coach for the Buffalo Bills and Drew Bledsoe loves him. For now we can throw numbers back and forth and say who is better. But perhaps we'll get a better gauge when the two go head-to-head in Lexington in week 3 of the season. Feel free to make your case as to who's better.
