The Triple Crown of Running has a new PR, that's running talk for personal record.
About a decade ago, Fred Teale, who manages the Rodes City Run, expressed a desire to donate a portion of the proceeds from his road race to the Crusade for Childen.
WHAS11 became a sponsor of the first leg of Louisville's Triple Crown of Running, and the foundation was set for a cooperative effort that would grow over the years.
This week, the Triple Crown, presented by Novo Nordisk, announced that it would make a record donation of $62,000 to the Crusade for Children during the first week of June.
Over the years, with new sponsors and Fred Teale's enthusiastic leadership, the Triple Crown of Running has grown into a road racing festival. Did you run the Triple Crown? 3,625 individual runners can answer, Yes!
But all three races, had registrations in the range of 6,000 runners.
It adds up to donations of $10,000 from the Anthem 5K Fitness Classic.
The Rodes City Run produced $22,000 for the Crusade.
And the Papa John's Ten Miler on April 15th reached the finish line with $30,000 for special needs children.
Triple Crown representatives will present their check to the Crusade at the Bomhard Theater on Saturday night June 3rd. And when they do, they'll be representing thousands of runners who gave their hearts and energy in the races.
They love to run. But when they run for the sake of kids who need help, it's a double blessing. And the Triple Crown of Running has become that kind of blessing for the Louisville community.
