mccainmcconnell.jpgWHAS11 News has learned that Arizona Senator John McCain, the Republican Presidential candidate in 2008, will come to Louisville on Veterans Day, November 11, for the opening of the Mitch McConnell archives at the University of Louisville's Ekstrom Library.

Virtue of McCain losing the presidential race, McConnell is the highest ranking Republican in the country. He is also the longest serving U.S. Senator in Kentucky history.

Though the two Senators have clashed over the years, especially over campaign finance reform, and by reputation do not like each other all that much, they recently hit the road together for several events pushing a more moderate approach than the Obama health care reform plan.

An Associated Press account of one event described an interaction "with something close to deference, unity and self-deprecation.

McConnell introduced McCain as the 'famous GOP senator.'

McCain answered, 'You mean our most famous loser.'"

While at U of L, McCain will probably speak to the McConnell Scholars, as other high-profile guests have over the years.

U of L has said the archives will "include hundreds of boxes of papers, photos and other materials expected to offer insight into McConnell's career and the workings of American government." They will also house the archives of McConnell's wife, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao.

This is amazing because John McCain really does hate McConnell.
