"I too am a Kentuckian......" No you're not.

We've heard the Abraham Lincoln quote a lot as America marks the 200th anniversary of his Kentucky birth.

"I too, am a Kentuckian," the Republican patron saint is quoted as saying as he promised not to abandon his principles.

Now, Kentucky's Republican primary for U.S. Senate is heating up with Secretary of State Trey Grayson dismissing opponent Rand Paul as "not a Kentuckian."

Grayson is quoted by WYMT-TV in Hazard in an interview to air Monday night.

"He's an outsider, he's not a Kentuckian. You know I'm a 5th generation Kentuckian, educated here in the public schools, raising my family here. The reason so why so many thousands of Kentuckians are helping out my campaign is they've seen my record as Secretary of State, they've seen me deliver on what I promised," Grayson said.

Rand Paul is firing back. "I've been a Kentuckian longer than Grayson's been a Republican!"

The libertarian-leaning Paul's Republican bona fides are often questioned, with the vast majority of his online donations coming from a network of likeminded conservatives who also back his father, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX). The Bowling Green opthamologist has been reminding conservatives that Grayson was once a Democrat who backed Bill Clinton.

"I've voted in every Kentucky Republican primary since 1993. When did Grayson start voting in the Republican primary?" Paul said in a statement issued by his campaign.

"I've raised all of my children here. Kentucky is the only home they've ever known. My wife's family arrived in Kentucky in the 1790's as surveyors. I've spent my entire medical career in Kentucky."

Rand Paul ftw!

This is a very nice response by Dr. Paul to a very rude and insulting line of attack by Mr. Grayson.

While his opponents struggle with each other’s gaffes and games, one candidate in the race remains focused on the issues that matter to Kentucky voters. Rand Paul will help create jobs, grow the economy, and make Kentuckians’ lives better by reminding Washington D.C. that individual freedom and capitalism built America into the greatest nation in the history of the world. Maintaining that status means returning to balanced budgets and rejecting government takeovers of private business activity. High taxes, higher spending, corporate welfare deals, and bailouts have distracted too many government officials from the people’s business. Unlike them, Rand Paul will always keep his eye on the ball and treat public service like a higher calling, albeit a temporary one.

Legalizing drugs, not supporting our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, eliminating the FBI and the Homeland Security Department, voting to end Don't Ask Don't Tell, blaming America for 9/11- these are hardly the issues the public in Kentucky wants our next Senator to take on.

Mr. Adams hides Ron and Rand Pauls kooky agenda in words about freedom. But freedom must be coupled with common sense on the things that matter most to Kentuckyians.

That's all well and good, but Rand Paul moved here to make his fortune, and now he wants to take his daddy's money 'bomb' and destory legitimate Kentucky politics.

Rand's Raiders are well-financed through outside money to try and steal the election with their fat checkbook.

The only "outside" money I'm seeing is Trey Grayson and his D.C. fundraiser on September 23rd.

Rand Paul hasn't had any $500 a plate dinners. And he didn't go to Harvard and the Aspen Institute like Grayson.

Finally, to the blog admins., enough with the "tookookyforKY" spam. That guy has pimped his blog enough here I think. Just my opinion anyway.

I am from Louisville but have lived in Northern Kentucky a while, and, trust me, people here do NOT know they are in Kentucky. Most of them associate themselves with Cincinnati. The culture is different here, and they are greatly out of touch with what is going on in the rest of the state.

Hey William Bryant, the smear site you put up
is a diservice to the people in Breathitt County and the rest of the other legit RKP office holders and leadership. As a GOP County Chair, you should take down the site or resign. That's not an opinion, that's intervention.
