Combat vet brings Thunder to 3rd District race

A combat veteran and Lt. Col. in the Kentucky National Guard is now setting his sights on the 3rd District Congressional seat held by Democrat John Yarmuth since 2007.

Republican Todd Lally is also a UPS pilot who has appeared on coverage of the Thunder Over Louisville air show. He joins nurse Marilyn Parker as potential candidates in the GOP primary.

Here's the exploratory committee release from Lally:

Todd Lally, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Kentucky Air National Guard and a pilot for UPS, has filed paperwork for an exploratory candidacy for U.S. Representative 3rdDistrict of Kentucky after consulting with local and state Republican leaders.

Lally, 38, is a combat veteran of both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a native of Louisville and grew up in the Tyler Park area. Lally is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and Atherton High School and is married to the former Heather Morrison of Louisville and they have two daughters.

Todd Lally has been a frequent radio commentator during Thunder Over Louisville and has flown in the show numerous times. He was the Republican nominee for State Representative in 1998 for the 34th State House District. He is a former Executive Committee member of the Jefferson County Republican Party and the past Vice-President of the National Guard Association of Kentucky.
