Attorney General Jack Conway said today that if he wins the democratic primary for U.S. Senate, he'd prefer to face Jim Bunning in November 2010. Conway told me he was surprised that Trey Grayson had filed papers forming an exploratory committee to test the waters for next year's race.
Conway described he and Grayson as "friends" and said he respects the current Secretary of State. Maybe that's why Conway was surprisingly candid in saying he'd rather face Bunning than either Grayson or Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr of Lexington who's also said to be considering a run. Conway will face Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo in the democratic primary.

Grayson will be a formidable candidate.
I know democrats that like him.
He is adored by the county clerks.
