It didn't smell right from day one and now the Lexington Herald-Leader's John Cheves has managed to bring down Gov. Beshear's head of Homeland Security. Ralph Coldiron quit today after Cheves discovered that Beshear's folks hadn't gotten proper approval to boost Coldiron's pay to $100,000. Earlier today, the paper found e-mails from Coldiron to Beshear's Chief of Staff showing Coldiron was apparently desperate for a job just before Beshear hired him.
