By Joe Arnold FYI -- Mark Hebert covered the Dems last week. I am posting my interview highlights and observations from the Republican National Convention. GOP strategist Scott Jennings, a former Karl Rove deputy in the Bush White House, has been providing analysis from the Republican perspective since the primaries. You can watch my daily Q and A's with him on WHAS11.com. Quotes from KY McCain chair Senate President David Williams: "There still is a lot of enthusiasm here. It's muted a little bit and we hope in the next 24 hours or so as things improve down in the coastal states that we'll return to a more normal schedule." On the surprise pick of Sarah Palin: "Then I got on the internet and started taking a look at her policies and realized that she is a person like from central casting as far as a candidate who will do well in KY." On "paper thin" revelations about Palin: "There's nothing more exhilirating in politics than being wrongfully accused, and having someone make revelations than end up being nothing. And I think there is a great deal of sympathy from people across this country and I will tell you I doubt very seriously that Gov. Palin would be treated the way she's being treated if she was a man." On the McCain-Palin ticket's promise of change: "Now there will be members of Congress in my opinion on the Republican and Democrat side that are a little queasy about what's about to happen. But it's good to have that kind of individual who will come up and try to change the culture of Washnigton DC." "I think the people of America will compare John Mccain who they know, who has a proven record and is right on the issues vs. Barack Obama who as Hillary Clinton said, 'made a speech,' He's a great speechmaker but it appears to me he's all hat and no cattle." "I surely don't see anything that's been talked about that will dampen the enthusiasm that I see on the floor of this convention for the Gov of Alaska, for what she can bring to this ticket and the fresh approach she can bring to America." "The revelations as you refer to them are paper thin. I think the important thing is that they're taling about Republican ticket, they're not talking about Obama they're not talking about Biden." Williams says Palin will fare well versus Biden in debates. |
