McConnell Raising Money to Stop Lunsford From Helping "Liberal's Radical Agenda"

Mark Hebert

Mitch McConnell is a fundraising machine for a reason. Here's his latest e-mail blast to supporters:

Supporter,

With less than 90 days to go until Election Day, I need your help.

Leading liberals like Senator Chuck Schumer of New York have recruited a self-funding candidate against me who has already spent more than $3 million of his own funds attacking me this year, not to mention the attacks from allied left-wing groups like MoveOn.org and the Sierra Club.

All these groups, backed by Big Labor, have stated clearly what they want:

a "filibuster-proof" Senate majority to give Barack Obama a virtual "rubber stamp" on the higher taxes and left-wing agenda he has promised if elected.

It's now clear the left wing of American politics is organized and focused on securing complete dominance of Congress and Washington...

... and Kentucky is a central part of their plan! To get to 60 Senate seats, they must defeat me in Kentucky.

Please, help me ensure they don't succeed by supporting my re-election today.

A gift of $25, $50, $100 or even more will help me secure the vital funds I need to wage what is quickly becoming an all-out battle for the Bluegrass State.

Consider these facts:

1) Both the AFL-CIO and the Democrat Senate Campaign Committee are publicly declaring their goal is to enter the next year with a filibuster proof 60- seat Senate majority.

2) My opponent has launched misleading ads attacking me - even as he admits his efforts are partly responsible for higher gas taxes in Kentucky. Additionally, he has criticized my efforts to open more U.S. lands to drilling, including offshore where 85% of available acreage is currently off-limits.

3) According to the Louisville paper, the National Democrat party has "decided to make a bigger commitment" to my opponent's campaign, and their state party is making big expenditures on his behalf.

4) My opponent attended a meeting of Big Labor bosses in Chicago, where he keeps a home, to promise them he will support their efforts to take away workers' right to secret ballots in labor union elections - something even most union members oppose.

5) Then, just this week, he hired a former top advisor to Senators Clinton and Kerry as his campaign consultant.

All these facts lead to one conclusion: Kentucky is a prized jewel for Washington liberals this cycle. My opponent is taking orders from Big Labor and the national Democrats as they try to spend as much as possible to "buy" this seat.

This means they will blanket the airwaves with half-truths, distortions, and outright lies about my record. We must more than match him in fundraising and wage a massive battle in the mail, on radio and television, and via the web to get out the truth.

But to do that, I need your help.

Take a moment right now to support my re-election with a gift of $25, $50, $100 or more to help me continue to lead the Senate Republicans who are working day and night to pass an energy plan that will "find more and use less" by allowing additional U.S. production and encouraging development of new technologies like battery-powered and electric vehicles to get us off Middle Eastern oil.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Your Friend,

Senator Mitch McConnell
Senate Republican Leader

There are fewer than 90 days until the election. The amount of support I can generate over the next three months could mean the difference between our conservative coalition remaining intact and a Senate that would rubber stamp the liberals' radical agenda. Help me make sure that doesn't happen by making a secure online contribution of $25 or more today. Thanks again for your help.
