Governor Beshear's administration has scheduled the second meeting of the task force that's studying transparency in government for a time when the republican's Mr. Transparency, Trey Grayson, can't attend the meeting. One blogger is beating up Beshear. Here's the response from the Secretary of State and the response to the response from Beshear's office: "It is disappointing that this meeting would be scheduled when it was obvious that one of the top Kentucky leaders in the transparency movement cannot be present. However, our online searchable checkbook should serve as the perfect example to the taskforce about how transparency in government can be accomplished. Because a meeting of the taskforce has finally been scheduled, we are reluctant to assign any political motives behind the particular date chosen for the meeting. We are just relieved that the effort is going to continue after a slow start." UPDATE: Beshear spokeswoman Jill Midkiff says the task force's chairman, Finance Secretary Jonathan Miller, didn't plan the meeting so Grayson would be unable to attend. Midkiff says Miller obviously didn't have the Republican National Convention on his radar screen as a possible conflict. Miller never heard from Grayson's office that there might be a scheduling problem but would be glad to reschedule the next meeting to accomodate the Secretary of State, according to Midkiff. HEBERT: Constitutional crisis apparently averted!!!!! Tempest moves outside teapot. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |
