Lunsford Raises $600,000 From Other Pockets

The democratic challenger to Sen. Mitch McConnell says he'll report raising about $600K from sources other than his own bank account during the last quarter. Bruce Lunsford has already pitched in $2.5 million of his own money.

Here's a portion of the news release from the Lunsford camp:

Lunsford's report to the FEC this week will show that he collected over $2.44 million during the months of May and June for his campaign to unseat McConnell. Combined with his April totals previously reported to the FEC, Lunsford's total receipts for the second quarter are nearly $3.1 million ($3,098,486). Lunsford will also report $1,340,567 cash on hand. Lunsford personally invested $2.5 million during the three-month period and with recent polls showing a tight race, he has continued to build a strong base of support across the Commonwealth.

HEBERT: McConnell's folks had a quick reply, citing Lunsford's statement to me and C-J reporter Joe Gerth that if he had to raise $15 million to get reelected, he'd go look for another job. The response from McConnell spokesman Justin Brasell:

"As in campaign's past, Bruce Lunsford's biggest fan is Bruce Lunsford. Bruce has now spent over $15 million of his own money trying to win elective office, which I believe is the monetary threshold he said would cause him to quit and go look for another job."
