Dems Embarrassed on Electric Car Press Conf.

It always helps to check with company officials before you hold a news conference featuring that company's product. House democratic leaders didn't do that and now they're in for an embarrassment. Here's the story:

The headline on yesterday's press release read "House leaders, others to test drive Zap car in Bullitt Co." The democrats had called a news conference for this afternoon to talk about their move to allow electric cars and other gas saving vehicles on Kentucky roadways. It appeared to be an attempt to help Bullitt Co. state rep. Larry Belcher, who's in a tough reelection fight. It also appeared to be an attempt to undercut and preempt a republican news conference announced last week and planned for Wednesday, at the same company, for the same purpose. But things haven't worked out for the dems. Here's the updated news release from House Speaker Jody Richards' office:

Clarification:

The Zap car expected to be included as part of today's tour of Integrity Manufacturing's Shepherdsville plant will not be available, due to a mis-communication with company officials. A Zap Segway will be available.
The tour is still scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. and will include mock-ups and designs highlighting the company's plans to distribute and eventually manufacture the electric car. Those scheduled to attend include House Speaker Jody Richards; state Representatives Larry Belcher, Mary Lou Marzian and Joni Jenkins; and Economic Cabinet officials. House Majority Floor Rocky Adkins will be unable to attend.

Hebert: I think I'll do this story tomorrow when the republicans will actually have a Zap car and company officials available for the media.
