Kentucky's two U.S. Senators may be spending the weekend in Washington, D.C. instead of in Graves County, Ky. The AP says the U.S. Senate may conduct a rare Saturday session. That means Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell might skip the Fancy Farm Picnic. Here's the AP story:
Bunning says he may miss Fancy Farm
PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning says Senate business could keep him from attending this weekend's Fancy Farm picnic in western Kentucky.
Bunning says he and U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell may be in Washington this weekend voting on an energy bill. McConnell has been expected to be one of the headliners at the political picnic as he is seeking re-election and being challenged by Democrat Bruce Lunsford.
It would be unusual for the Senate to have a Saturday session but Bunning says it is possible because Congress is about to take a monthlong summer recess.
Robert Steurer in McConnell's office says the senator is looking forward to attending the picnic and will unless he must remain in Washington with the Senate in session.
