Folks in Louisville's legal community are still keeping an eye on County Attorney Irv Maze wondering when, or if, he might retire. Maze, 58, has worked for 32 years in the public sector and can retire at any time with full benefits. County Attorney spokesman Bill Patteson says the former child support attorney and Jefferson County Commissioner is a member of the CERS retirement system which will change at the end of this year. That means Maze would personally benefit by retiring before the end of the this year and not serving out the rest of his four year term at county attorney. But Patteson says, while Maze has waffled on whether to retire or not, it appears that he'll fill the remainder of his term. If Maze decides to retire early, Mayor Jerry Abramson would appoint an interim county attorney and would presumably appoint one of his top aides, perhaps Tina Heavrin or Jim McGovern to the post. Both are lawyers. But this is all speculation based on whether Maze stays or goes. Patteson says "the fact of the matter is that he loves his job." |
