State officials couldn't give state lawmakers a timetable on when a state-run home for people with mental retardation and other disabilities might get recertified by the federal government. Without that recertification, there's no medicaid money coming from the feds and Kentucky taxpayers are picking up the entire $5 million/month to keep Oakwood running. The money wasted there could be better utilized. The money that has already been wasted could have built smaller more efficient places for the people that are left their to live. It is time to do something better than Oakwood.
Mark, check this out Jody Richards has 150 million dollars in the new road plan. More than anyone.
70 million a year to house 224 people = questionable activity someone needs to itimize this place and see exactly where that money is going and what they are spending it on.
Embarrassing! at the same time Jimmie Lee is railroading the borrowing of $10 million to build on the Hazelwood campus, another icf/mr, cottages for a handful (16? 24?) of people with disabilities. Some folks will do anything with other people's money to get their names on a building. Coordination? Planning? Guess the Cabinet over there isn't big enough.
looks like the time for the Gov to make a decisive move to benefit the tax payor in these hard times with the budget so tight does the state really need to be wasting this money I'm sure they are going to wait as long as possibe to try for recertification because the place can't pass inspection with out some political help. Federal money or state money it is still taxpayers money being misused. These people are better suited to live and recieve services in the community.
Hearld Leader has ran a good story on 6\22\08 about the goings on there looks like nothing has changed.
