Are Young Lawyers Experienced Enough To Be Judges

4:50 PM Sun, Jun 01, 2008 |

She's never tried a case in her young legal career, but Katie King insists she'd be a fine District Court judge. King has the money to buy name recognition and her father's political reach, making her a formidable candidate in the November election. But according to a C-J story, some are wondering if two years legal experience is enough for a judge.

As we inch toward November 4, 2008, I look forward to educating the electorate about the personal and professional inspiration that is Kathryn Rebecca King.

Katie King is a remarkably talented prosecutor and a wonderfully astute young lady. She demonstrates the same tenacity in the courtroom that she exhibited as a scholar-athlete, leading the Assumption Rockets to their first ever national title in volleyball. Katie's indefatigable thirst for justice was nurtured at the University of Louisville, where she navigated the curricular complexities of justice administration with a 3.8 grade point average. Although some have decried Katie's lack of experience, she has received extensive prosecutorial training, having studied at the acclaimed National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Her legal maturation occurs at a more accelerated rate than her peers; in recognizing Katie's infectious thirst for knowledge, her supervisors hand-selected her over more experienced attorneys to prosecute gun violence. In spite of her many accolades, she remains courteous toward her coworkers. To be continued…

Sincerely,
