Northup Pushed Coal, Nuclear Power and Drilling in ANWR

Former Congresswoman Anne Northup is pushing clean coal, nuclear power and drilling for oil in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge as ways to help solve the U.S. dependence on foreign oil. Here's Northup's e-mail to her supporters:

Dear Friends,

Iʼd like to welcome you to visit the newly renovated Northup for Congress website. On it youʼll find news about the campaign, pictures, videos and the first ever Northup for Congress blog, where you can discuss the race with fellow Northup supporters.

This Congressional race is important. It is important right here at home. We need our strongest ally in Washington so that our community can grow and compete. It is a fact that Louisville has not been able to get the attention and support it needs at the state level. This makes it all the more important that we achieve everything possible at the federal level. This is a chance to redeem many of those wonderful, exciting things we had going for us when we had a Representative who was a strong independent leader here at home and could get things done in Washington.

And it is important to have a voice in Washington that reflects the majority opinion here at home as we confront the tough issues that face this country. With the economy faltering the next Congress will decide whether to make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent or take more of working families hard earned dollars. Congress must address energy independence for the sake of our national security and to stop the rising costs of energy which are draining the pockets of American families. Will we finally embrace real solutions like Nuclear energy, clean coal technologies and drill where we have vast oil and gas reserves? Or will we continue with piecemeal solutions and lose more valuable time?

Experts agree that this will be one of the most competitive congressional races in the country. We need your help and support. The May 20th Primary is quickly approaching so please be sure to sign-up to volunteer, put a bumper sticker on your car or make a donation.

Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,
