Governor Beshear is ordering state lawmakers to try and reach agreement on a pension reform bill in the next three weeks. If that happens, Beshear says he'll call a special legislative session in June to deal with the issue that he calls "The Growing Storm." Here's the story I did for the 5:30 news tonight. If legislators and the governor can agree on some sort of pension plan, it would give all of them a much needed political boost. After the unproductive 2008 session of the Kentucky legislature, Beshear's job approval rating is below 40% while the public's approval of the legislature is worse, just 22% job approval, according to a Lexington Herald-Leader poll. |
