Fischer Says Thanks, Support Lunsford

After his losing assault on Bruce Lunsford, U.S. Senate candidate Greg Fischer is keeping his word and supporting Lunsford's upset bid against Mitch McConnell. Here's Fischer's e-mail to supporters:

When we began this campaign just four months ago, no one gave our cause a chance. Although I fell short yesterday, we should all feel proud of what we accomplished in a very short time - almost 210,000 votes and 34% of the total count.

But the most important result was the great network of folks across this Commonwealth who have poured their hearts and souls into this campaign; Democratic activists who worked so hard in the trenches, day in and day out never giving up and never giving in, despite what the polls and pundits said.

I came into this campaign as the political newcomer the complete unknown believing that to change Washington, we had to start by changing the kind of people we send there.

We fought a valiant campaign. We traveled tens of thousands of miles taking our message of change from the large cities along the Ohio to the small hamlets along the Mississippi from farming communities in Logan County to the steel mills of Boyd County.

I have never been more proud of an effort than the one given by our extended team - big time thanks to all of you!

On Tuesday night I spoke with Bruce Lunsford and congratulated him on his hard fought victory. While Bruce and I had our differences in a spirited Primary, it is now time to work together as Democrats united in one common purpose to put a Democrat in the Whitehouse and a Democrat in the United States Senate.

It is time to bring our Party together and begin that long march that will be required to return Mitch McConnell to the private sector.

As I look to the future, allow me to close on a longer term note- and a challenge to all of us. We live in a country where the power of one can influence the many - never underestimate the power you have to make a difference - step out and lead - because I believe the future of our country will be decided by those of us who decide:

To make our communities a better place through service to others as part of our daily lives.
To be environmental stewards for preserving our planet.
To make our communities healthier so that that we can live better lives and remove the crushing cost of health care.
To be global citizens and model to the rest of the world that all of the people on our earth can live together in harmony.
To be lifelong learners - for it is the nourishment of the mind that tends to the heart and spirit that we will all need to live in today's rapidly changing world.
Thanks again - and I look forward to staying in touch with you!

Sincerely,

Greg
