CPE Ready To Cut Tuition Hikes

7:42 AM Fri, May 09, 2008 |
Mark Hebert

The Council on Postsecondary Education is expected to vote this morning to slash the tuition hike requests from several public universities and the KCTCS system.

A committee of the council voted to follow CPE staff recommendations on tuition increases and suggest that the full council do the same at its meeting this morning. It's clear university presidents are steamed at the move. Maybe now the state legislature and Kentucky voters will consider legalizing casinos at our institutions of higher learning. I mean, U of L is expanding its football stadium and will be unlikely to fill it for a few years and EKU could take over one of the buildings at the Department of Criminal Justice Training on its campus. Seems to me there's plenty of room for "Casinos on Campus." After all, isn't more money for higher education more important than more money for horse racing or Little League fields in eastern Kentucky?
