Federal Funding Will Go Toward Noise Mitigation for Surrounding Areas

(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) announced that Louisville International Airport has been awarded a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to be used for noise mitigation for the surrounding neighborhoods.

"This funding will go a long way toward improving the quality of life for those who live near the airport," Congressman Yarmuth said. "Louisville International Airport and business partners like UPS generate more than 40,000 jobs and $2 billion in income for our community. Continuing to improve the facility and support area families must remain top priorities."

"We are grateful for this support, which will enable us to continue to move families from neighborhoods impacted by aircraft noise," J.D. Nichols Board Chairman Louisville Regional Airport Authority.

The funding is part of the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century. This is the second year in a row that $10 million has been secured for the airport through the program for the purposes of sound mitigation.

An economic impact study released last year found that Louisville International Airport is responsible for $4.5 billion in yearly business expenditure, providing $246 million in local and state tax revenue annually.
