Kentucky lawmakers "stop the clock" but still don't get much done in the waning hours of the legislative session. I wasn't there but reporters who were say the House and Senate didn't leave Frankfort until around 1 a.m. this morning without passing a pension bill. On Tuesday night, House and Senate leaders had apparently reached a "tentative deal" on the pensions, with Senate President David Williams backing down from the senate's plan which called for the government pension systems switching to an optional 401K-type retirement plan. But House leaders apparently couldn't sell the deal to their members or state, county and city employee groups. Here's the C-J's version and the Herald-Leader's version of what was going on early this morning. "Stopping the clock" and refusing to recognize the midnight hour and final minute of the legislative session has been done in past legislative sessions. But that was before everything was computerized. So one has to wonder if any actions logged into the legislative computers after midnight this morning will be valid. There's probably no way to alter the log in times on the LRC computers. I'm headed to Frankfort this morning to pick up the pieces off the scrap heap known as the 2008 Legislative session. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

What message does stopping the clock send to children and young people? That it's all right for grownups and the people they are supposed to look up to- Legislators- TO CHEAT ?
Just as expected. Watch what happens Many employees will retire this year hire back into the system not at the bottom but back at same salary in same job or around the same grade double dipping and retire again in 5 years and put more drain on the retirement system's lialibility. All under the auspice of the state needs experienced veteran employees.
