Williams - Moberly Lobbing Bombs At Each Other

5:50 PM Fri, Mar 21, 2008 |

The David Williams vs. Harry Moberly mudslinging stepped up a notch on Friday, just as the two of them get ready to join the other House and Senate leaders for negotiations on the budget bill

Williams reiterated his stance today that Moberly is violating legislative ethics rules by serving as chairman of the House Appropriations and Revenue committee and voting on projects for the place he works, Eastern Kentucky University. Williams claims Moberly has abused his position to slip projects for E.K.U. into the budget, disrupting the negotiations.

Moberly fired back with a vengeance today, calling the Senate President an "egomaniacal dictator" who is picking on Moberly because the House budget chairman has killed Senate Bill 1, Williams' top priority for the 2008 legislation session. Moberly says he's talked to the director of the Legislative Ethics Commission, Tony Wilhoit, who told him there's no conflict as long as Moberly doesn't personally benefit by any of the votes he takes. Moberly says Williams is the one abusing his power on the budget conference committee by sliding $10 million dollars into the budget for a pharmacy school at University of the Cumberlands, an appropriation that's been ruled unconstitutional by a judge.

Moberly admits that he's bitter about Williams raising the conflict issue but says he can set aside the battle with Williams inside the Budget conference committee room. When asked if opening up the conference committee to public view might resolve some problems, Moberly says he's always been for bringing the meetings out from behind closed doors. House Speaker Jody Richards said he's be willing to make a motion to open the budget negotiations. Williams told reporters that opening the meetings would just result in negotiators heading to private offices and still doing the majority of the work behind closed doors.

Ha Ha! King David making ethics charges? Pot calling the kettle black. Williams one of the worst, self-serving members of the entire General Assembly. He is undoubtably the worst of what public service has. The EYES in Frankfort need to use their LIPS and start telling the truth about this Jester.

The University of Cumberlands is in Sen. Williams' district and Eastern Kentucky University is in Rep Moberly's district so any sound-minded individual would understand the idea of them fighting for money for their respective schools. The problem lies with the fact that David is an attorney where as Harry is employed by EKU! Where's the bluegrass freedom fund now? Clear ethical problems!

Mark, how does one lobby a bomb?

Pardonme but Harry is making about $160,000.00 as an official at EKU and his wife is making approximately $85,000.00 at EKU all the while Harry is "earning" additional taxpayer money as an "impartial" State Representative who holds the purse strings for EKU. What's wrong with this picture? Then we turn around and castigate David for trying to bring this out into the open. Our venerated newspeople don't spend any time trying to uncover the truth about this kind of unethical behavior but would rather write articles that support a Governor who is trying his best to usher into our State organized crime in the guise of "Casino Gambling". Kentucky you had better wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late. We got rid of Fletcher but I do believe we are seeing equally as bad if not worse.

And remind me exactly what David Williams does in Frankfort to earn his salary? Go back in time and tell me if you want your taxpayer dollars paying for Williams legislative "lifestyle." Wait, you aren't paying for that lifestyle, LOBBYISTS ARE. You get stuck with the "bill" when legislators grandstand and play obstructionist instead of focusing on health and welfare, as well as economic issues, that really affect the average person in KY. Not grandstanding on gays, calling names, passing irrelevant resolutions, trying to make corn hole the state "game" etc., but then going out on the town in Frankfort and having a high old time like public service is a big joke. And trust me, the shenanigans are bipartisan!
