Senate President David Williams said today that he believes the governor's office and House Democratic leaders are offering projects and passage of bills to lawmakers in return for their votes on the casino bill. Here's the video version of the story we aired at 5. Williams told reporters today that interest groups and legislators are "lined up at the trough" of the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee to get hand outs in the budget process in return for support on the casino bill. Williams says if that's happening, it's criminal activity. He offered no proof of the vote trading but said he would later. House A and R chairman Rep. Harry Moberly denied Williams' allegations, saying there' have been no offers of projects or help with pet legislation in return for casino votes. Moberly did admit that there is horse trading going on in connection with the budget. Moberly says lawmakers who agree to support tax hikes or new revenue will be at the head of the list to get projects in their districts. Moberly says that's the way the system works. |
