Welcome Back State Workers!!!!
State government employees will once again be able to read this political blog and others courtesy of the new governor.
Governor Steve Beshear has lifted the block on state computers' access to political web sites. That ban was imposed by former Governor Ernie Fletcher who said state employees had no reason to look at political blogs, internet shopping sites and other web pages while they were on taxpayer time.
But Beshear spokesman Dick Brown says allowing access to the political sites is "the right thing to do." Brown says the governor trusts state employees to know what's an appropriate use of their state computer and keeping information from them was not the right thing to do.
A federal lawsuit challenging the Fletcher administration's ban on political blogs is still pending. Former democratic blogger Mark Nickolas filed that lawsuit claiming blockage of his old web site was a first amendment issue.

Comments
Mark,
When you talk to Governor Beshear, please ask him to keep the block on Kentucky Progress and Bluegrass Policy Blog.

The only reason they lifted the "ban" is because they are hoping to get some support from the State Workers on the political blogs. Good Luck Gov, even the State Workers think you are a terrible Gov! Almost all business block web sites why should the State lift the ban. The State Workers need to be working not blogging. I am truly disapointed that this Administration who is against using e-mail, blackberries etc allow State employees access to blogging again. What are they thinking? Great way to lose Revenue.
