Thousands of Kentuckians Have Blown Chance to Vote in Primary

About 9,000 who have changed their party registration since January 1st, won't be allowed to vote in the May primary election.

Secretary of State Trey Grayson says he assumes many of the party switchers are now signed up as democrats, hoping to vote in the democratic primary race for president. But Grayson says state law forbids anyone who switches parties from voting in the primary election for partisan candidates in the same year they switched. They can still vote in the November election. Grayson told reporters about the potential problem today hoping folks who planned on showing up at precincts planning to vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama will realize they've made a mistake. Grayson also says the Obama campaign has requested 5,000 voter registration cards from his office. So before folks start changing their registration, thinking they'll be able to vote for the Illinois senator, they should know that the move will actually bar them from voting any republican or democrat in May. Grayson says he favors the current "closed primary" law but opposes the current rule banning party switchers from voting in the primary.
