Thieneman May Jump Back In To Congressional Race

Louisville developer Chris Thieneman tells WHAS11 News he's reconsidering his decision to quit campaigning for the republican nomination for Congress.

Thieneman says several people are encouraging him to jump start his congressional campaign after watching him get kicked out of the Jefferson County Republican Party convention today. Thieneman claims he was properly elected and credentialed to serve on the nominations committee of the local party. But party leaders disagreed and had a police officer escort Thieneman out the door of the meeting, according to Thieneman.

Thieneman filed to run for Congress back in January despite pressure from some Republican Party leaders to stay out of the race and give Anne Northup a virtually free ride to the GOP nomination. Thieneman says he got fed up with the abuse so he said he would quit campaigning and may even change his party registration to democrat. But he never filed the proper papers to take his name off the May ballot. And after today's rowdy meeting in which some folks chanted "Thieneman for Congress!!! Thieneman for Congress!!!" the Louisville developer says he's considering their pleas.

Meanwhile, the way the voting for the at-large delegates went today, it appears Brad Cummings will have the votes to be the new chairman of the Jefferson County Republican Party. Craig Maffet, who's a lawyer in the State Agriculture Department, is also seeking the nomination and is backed by the faction which includes more libertarian members of the party.
Basically the split in the party is between what some might call the "South End Republicans" and the "Country Club Republicans."

The local GOP also voted down two resolutions. One was a no-confidence vote for presidential candidate John McCain, the other called for an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

I have friends on both sides of this issue however, I think Chris should run. Ann was a great congresswoman and got a whole lot of earmarks for the 3rd district. However, the Republican Party shouldn't be the party of earmarks. We should be the party of reduced government, lower taxes, lower spending instead of the out of control idea of "Bigger is Better" - "No Child Left Behind"? “Homeland Security”? The two biggest pork barrels ever! We have become the party of “All Hat & No Cattle” - We need to get back to our principles! OBTW Ann has no argument that Chris shouldn’t create a primary, that’s what I was saying this time last year; What’s good for the goose is good for the gander!

not too late for a Thieneman Independent Senate run...

Thieneman has 2 chances....slim and none. Slim has left town. He is a rank amateur and his conduct thus far has demonstrated this.

Anne has worked hard in the past. We are now suffering terrible economic because of some of the policies of the past. We have spent our way into a recession and she is of the past. Ron Lewis new when it was time to go. Lets Remember Chris has raised over a million dollars for the Cancer center and fought a 40 million dollar tax on the libarary initiative. This as a private citizen. Real Change requires real change. Lets draft Chris (since he is on the ballot) Anne is un electable. Sound familiar. She can not win.

As the chairman of the credentials committee, I can honestly say that he was properly elected and credentialed. The JCREC could have kicked him out from the process at their February meeting, but once they allowed him to participate on March 1st, they had no right to say that events prior to their Feb. meeting should count against him. I don't know if he will run or not, but I do know he is still on the ballot -- just like Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.
