Students Miss Classes For Clinton Political Event

All of the high school students in the Franklin County School District are getting a chance to see Bill Clinton at a campaign rally in Frankfort on Tuesday, with parental approval. But that's not sitting well with all parents.

One mother told me she's not happy about her kid missing school to go to a political event for Hillary Clinton's campaign. But a spokesman for Franklin County Schools says the students must have written permission from their parents before they're allowed to attend the rally at the Frankfort Civic Center. Wayne Dominick says Franklin County's 1700 high schooler were invited to the rally by Franklin County Judge-Executive Ted Collins. He says the bands and choirs will participate in the event and school busses will run from Western Hills H.S. and Franklin County H.S. to get the kids to the civic center. Dominick says the school district weighed the potential fallout from having students miss school for a political event but decided they'd get few chance to see a former president or the political process up close.

Meanwhile, President Clinton is spending the night in Frankfort. According to Clinton friend Jerry Lundergan, the former president is scheduled to meet with several democrats before the 10:30 a.m. rally in Frankfort. Lundergan says democratic superdelegates JoEtta Wickliffe and Terry McBrayer, both of whom are supporting Hillary Clinton, are scheduled to meet with Clinton as is Governor Beshear who is an uncommitted superdelegate. Lundergan says Clinton also plans to meet with state legislators and others who have endorsed his wife's candidacy.
