While Kentucky lawmakers stew over casinos, where to put them, whether to let Kentucky voters vote, etc. Indiana's two horse tracks are about to install slots at their facilities. Indiana Downs and Hoosier Park are expected to rake in more than $200 million in new gaming revenue for the state of Indiana once their slots are in full operation. About $60 million of that will be going to the Indiana horse industry, principally for purse enhancements. The head of racing operations at Indiana Downs says the track hopes to double or triple its purses next year and perhaps lure better horses from Turfway, Churchill Downs and Ellis Park.
