Repubs Want Sign In Sheets on Gov't Web Site

The case of the disappearing Capitol sign in sheets has a new twist. The Kentucky Republican Party Chairman is urging Governor Beshear to copy the visitor sign in sheets to the web and put them on the governor's office web site.

A WHAS 11 News investigation has prompted quite a bit of interest in the sign in sheets which are located at each entry to the State Capitol building in Frankfort. We found three days worth of the sign in logs are missing, January 7-9. On one of those days, a number of horse industry CEOs and someone identifying themselves as Bill Yung, the controversial casino operator, signed into the capitol building.

Now GOP Chairman Steve Robertson is calling the missing public documents "disturbing." He wants all sign in sheets, plus separate sign ins for the governor's office, copied and posted on the governor's web site. Governor Beshear's spokeswoman Vicki Glass says "these records are already available to any member of the press or public through the open records act."

Yesterday, State Police spokesman Lt. Phil Crumpton told me that the KSP is trying to create a type of "chain of custody" procedure to keep track of the sign in sheets in the future. He doesn't have any idea where the missing logs are.

David Adams said:

This is a terrific idea. While they are at it, the Beshear Administration should follow the Democratic party's standard-bearer Sen. Barack Obama and put government expenditures online.

If they need ideas, HB 105 might be a good place to start.
