More Lunsford Haters Turn Other Cheek
Another big labor organization has endorsed Bruce Lunsford's campaign for U.S. Senate. Yes, it's another coalition that worked against Lunsford in his 2007 race for governor.
According to a news release from the Kentucky State AFL-CIO, it's political action committee, representing several local and international unions, has agreed to endorse Lunsford. According to the release, the AFL-CIO folks are backing Lunsford because he promised to work for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act which Mitch McConnell opposes. The EFCA is a union-backed measure to amend the National Labor Relations Act to make it easier to form unions at companies and easier to punish firms who engage in unfair labor practices.
As many of you know, I'm not a big fan of reporting endorsements. But big labor unions doing an about face on Lunsford is news and probably begs the question, "are they getting something in return?" or do they just think Lunsford is the best candidate to challenge McConnell? Here's the response to the endorsement from Lunsford's campaign:
Frankfort, KY – This past Saturday, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Bruce Lunsford received the endorsement of the Kentucky State AFL-CIO.
“I’m proud to receive the support of another organization that fights for working families all across Kentucky,” said Lunsford. “We share the common goals of reducing health care costs, creating more jobs, and getting our economy back on track. Together we will provide more opportunities for our children and future generations. After 24 long years of Mitch McConnell, it is time for a change in Washington.”
Lunsford continued, talking about why he decided to run for Senate and why he believes we need change in Washington.
“These are serious times. America’s standing in the world has been reduced, we are stuck in a poorly conceived war that needs to end, the economy is on the brink of recession, and the cost of health care and college tuition continue to skyrocket, preventing too many working families from achieving the American dream,” said Lunsford. “The Bush administration and Republican leadership in congress have driven our country into a ditch and Mitch McConnell continues to stand in the way, refusing to let anyone get us back on the road. Partisan obstructionism and the influence of special interests are preventing common-sense solutions to many of the challenges we face. This needs to change. Kentucky needs a new voice in the U.S. Senate. I will be that voice and will make you proud.”
This is the second major statewide labor endorsement for Lunsford, who was endorsed last month by Change to Win Kentucky, a coalition of six major union organizations.

When Unions endorse Bruce Lunsford, they lose all clout they had remaining to me. How can they endorse someone who has treated Unions in the past as a disease. How can they endorse someone who has lied to stockholders of his own company and seen his own stock become worthless? Is it just because he is a Democrat? Lunsford would be in jail if he was a regular guy not a wealthy guy.
I would not vote for this thief even if he was running against morally bankrupt McConnell. I would sit out that Senate race and not vote. A Democratic thief against a morally bankrupt Republican does not give the nod to the Democrat.

If we Democrats are dumb enough to support Lunsford in the primary, then we deserve to lose again. He's never proven he can win anything, and has flip flopped on so many issues. fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on all of us.
