Jefferson Co. GOP May Have McCain "No Confidence" Vote

The divided Jefferson County Republican Party is meeting this weekend and it could be a doozy.

The Resolutions Committee of the county GOP has apparently passed a resolution expressing no confidence in the Republican nominee for President John McCain. The full convention is expected to vote on the resolution at its meeting this Saturday. Here's the resolution:

Resolution expressing no confidence in John McCain

WHEREAS John McCain has supported amnesty for illegal aliens, blatantly trampling on the rule of law through his McCain-Kennedy bill; and,

WHEREAS John McCain has opposed drilling in ANWR; and,

WHEREAS John McCain has consistently opposed the reduction of the national tax burden; and,

WHEREAS John McCain has shown a reckless attitude towards war, and a lack of appreciation for the lives of our servicemen and women, as well as those of other sovereign nations; and,

WHEREAS John McCain has opposed the continuing search for POW MIAs; and,

WHEREAS John McCain has worked to silence political speech, particularly that of grassroots and issues oriented organizations through McCain-Feingold; and,

THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED the Jefferson County Republican Party expresses no confidence in John McCain as the Republican Party Nominee; and,

THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED the Jefferson County Republican Party urges our State party officers and delegates to the National Convention to oppose the nomination of John McCain for President of these United States.

Submitted and Adopted by the Jefferson County Republican Party, Kentucky, Congressional District # 3, on March 10th, 2008.

And here's more from a Jefferson County republican blogger.

Mark: The Resolutions Committee was dominated by the Ron Paul supporters, who won their respective elections fair-and-square. They passed many similar resolutions, most of which probably will not be passed by the entire body.
In a way, this might be a good thing since it will probably cause most of the pro-Jack Richardson folks and most of the anti-Jack Richardson folks to finally agree on something.
I agree that the convention this weekend will probably be a doozy. (See my blog for more information.)

The anti-McCain measured failed, as did the anti-Iraq. However, some measures passed that I didn't think would, such as getting rid of the Federal Reserve.
The at-large slate was crammed through, with practically no debate allowed. Don't think for a moment that Thieneman was thrown out because of his supposed stance on Yarmuth. It was totally because Thieneman was on the Nominations Committee.
