Former state senator Walter Baker has resigned from the Council on Postsecondary Education. Baker resigned from the CPE due to the legal requirement for Council membership to reflect the ration of registered democrats and republicans in Kentucky. The CPE had too many republicans when Governor Beshear reappointed Baker to a four year term. The CPE also voted for a resolution which calls for the legislature to identify more revenue for Kentucky's colleges and universities. Beshear has called for a 12 percent budget cut to public universities in the biennial budget. That would be on top of the 3 percent cut they've been hit with this year. The Council did not recommend what revenue sources the legislature should approve. |
