Poll Shows Big Turnaround for McConnell

The latest Survey USA/WHAS 11 poll shows a huge turnaround in the approval ratings for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell.

Last month, for the first time since the polling of McConnell's job approval rating began, a bigger percentage of Kentuckians disapproved of the job he was doing in Washington. Not so anymore. This month's poll shows 51% Approve, 42% Disapprove with 7% undecided. A slew of TV ads, better news from Iraq and decisions by Crit Luallen and Greg Stumbo not to challenge McConnell have probably helped his standing. But perhaps the more interesting numbers were found in the crosstabs/breakouts. When those polled were asked what's the top issue facing the next president, 23% said the economy, 22% said health care, 13% Iraq and 12% immigration. To me, the most stunning numbers are the last two. Many Republicans are hoping to base their entire campaigns on a promise to crack down on illegal immigrants while many democrats are hoping to base their entire campaigns on getting out of Iraq. But it looks like voters are looking for leadership on two issues closer to their pocketbooks.

Given the number of TV commercials he has been running as of late, is a resurgence of his numbers all that surprising? The
interesting part is that he had to run the ads in the first place. A sitting, Senior US Senator with no declared
opposition, does a significant ad buy on the back of some alarming poll number, what does that tell you? Is says to me
that those poll numbers make him nervous. It also says to me that the middle ground on McConnell is soft as a marsh,
especially when his numbers come back that quickly and easily.

The interesting bit on his commercials is very simple. The majority of the wonderful things he is taking credit for
happened under a Republican Congress and a Republican President. I wonder how receptive a Democrat Congress and Democrat
President are going to the Senate Republican Minority leader? I’m not arguing what he has or hasn’t done for our state in
the past. McConnell can wrestle with the historians on that score. The plan fact of the matter is his ability to help our
state in the future is in serious doubt. Given the strong partisan potions he has taken in the past, how can we expect
that Kentucky will get a fair hearing in Congress while pulling his baggage train?

Those poll numbers changed with just McConnell ads. Wait to Andrew Horne starts to expose the Bush/McConnell agenda and mentions over and over the comment about " professional soldiers dying not draftees". McConnell is clearly worried about next year. The man is not stupid!

Well if he was that smart, he wouldn't have so many ethical lapses or problems.
The damage he's done is arguably excused by the pro-military ads aired and paid for by the History Channel.
When Stuart Culpepper rolls out favorable [to Mitch] dialog in those same dulcet tones with which we're familiar, that extoll the virtues of the range of military equipment "that keeps us safe from 'terrorism'" the body politic seems to dance mesmerized into the foul clutches of this truly evil personna, the senior Senator from Kentucky. A presence along with Fletcher, Gooch, Williams [both], Bunning, Whitfield, Davis, Thayer & Reverend Ron force us to hang our heads in shame, that we keep re-electing them.

As the IRAQ - situation, as the media call it "Cools Down", then the issue of the 4000 dead fighting for oil will take a back seat in the campaign. McConnell and his aids and his news plants will try to turn the election toward the ECONOMY.

This places the IRAQ OCCUPATION in a lesser role as the lead story on the evening news. I can't understand why. Our loved ones are still being killed and ijuured by the INSURGENTS, and their is no end in sight. So, why has the media pushed this story to less significance.

My advise to Colonel Horn, brush up on the expenditures that have been allocated for the Iraq conflict, then go back and look at the needed programs the Congress should have passed, but did not.

Immigration is a perfect example. Even that issue has been lowered on the viewer menu. And, now we are seeing more and more about the Economy.

The truth is: If we had not spent BILLION AND BILLIONS OF
BUCKS ON THE NEEDLESS OCCUPATION, then there would be money for other programs. The significant thing would be to compare needed programs that benefit the public that were ignored and then show how much money has been spent on the occupation of Iraq and Afganastan.

If McConnell, can take charge and dictate the issues, then the issues that most impact him, naturally will not be on that agenda. Will the public see this?

Who knows, I hope not.

I just wanna say
