Robocalls Link Beshear to Gay Agenda

We don't know who's paying for them, but thousands of automated phone calls have made their way across Kentucky today, pretending to be a gay group in support of Steve Beshear.

In actuality, the calls are designed to scare voters away from voting for Beshear by linking him to a gay activist group that has endorsed him. The call contains no disclaimer, and doesn't have to, according to Sarah Jackson, executive director of the Registry of Election Finance. Jackson says there's no state law requiring candidates, parties or independent groups to identify themselves in phone calls, like they do on printed materials, radio and TV ads. Today's robocalls tell listeners to go to "fairness.org" for more information, implying that the calls are from the Louisville-based Fairness Coalition which promotes gay rights issues. But the Fairness Coalition says they had nothing to do with the calls. Governor Fletcher and Kentucky Republican Party Chairman Steve Robertson say their campaigns/groups had nothing to do with the calls. Here's the story I did for the 6 p.m. news.
