McConnell Staffer Linked to Criticism of 12-year-old
The Democrats trotted out a 12-year-old boy named Graeme Frost to give their response to President Bush's radio address over the weekend.
The 12-year-old defended the expansion of the S-CHip program that President Bush vetoed. Some republicans then began attacking the youngster, saying he was actually a wealthy kid who wouldn't be eligible for the children's health insurance benefits. Now one web site is claiming that the attacks may have been started by an aide to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Um, excuse me. But Graeme Frost WAS eligible for the benefits. That's why he received them. The Republicans chief claim was that the youngster attends an expensive private school. He does, but he receives a full academic scholarship to attend. Then the Republicans claimed they live in a too-nice neighborhood. The truth is that the house was purchased for $55,000 in 1991. No one ever claimed, as you've written above, that the boy was ineligible. The Republicans simply don't WANT children like him to be eligible. That's the issue. Republicans want children to go without healthcare.

If the Dems trotted the kid out there, then if the kid gets criticized, the kid will just have to take it. I'm more outraged that the Dems put a kid up for a rebuttal in the first place.

There's a difference between criticism and lies. The Republicans aren't criticizing; they are lying, which is what their entire movement is founded on. Fortunately, the American people have woken up to it. After 2008, we won't have to worry about Republicans for a while.
